Register-News, Mt Vernon IL, Fri 25 Aug 1972 GRACE BIRKHEAD MT. VERNON Grace BIRKHEAD, 75, of 804 Conger Ave., died at 11:50 a.m. yesterday at Good Samaritan Hospital. Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 2 p.m. at Casey Avenue Baptist church, where Mrs. BIRKHEAD was a member with Rev. Buss HART officiating. Burial will be in New Hope cemetery. Friends may call at Myers Chapel after 5 p.m. today. The body will be taken to the church at noon tomorrow. Mrs. BIRKHEAD was born April 1, 1897, in Jefferson county, the daughter of Judson and Delia (NEWTON) GIFFORD. On June 4, 1914, she married Curtis BIRKHEAD. He preceded her in death in 1968. She is survived by three sons, Franklin BIRKHEAD, Elgin, Oral BIRKHEAD, Park Forest, and Judson BIRKHEAD, Springfield; a daughter, Mrs. Velma DAVENPORT, Mt. Vernon; two brothers, Amos GIFFORD, Bethalto, and Earl GIFFORD, Belle Rive; 17 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and a daughter, Cona HILLIARD.
