    3. ELKVILLE - Carl E. Cochran, 58, of Tacoma Wash., formerly of Elkville, passed away at his home June 5, 2013. Carl was born Oct. 20, 1955, in Carthage Texas, to Henry Joe Cochran and Dora Ann (Anderson) Cochran. Carl moved to Tulsa, Okla., in the late 1970's and worked in an art gallery, where he developed his passion for contemporary 2-D multi-media art. Using scraps of matboard, paper, found objects and paint, he began to construct and frame pieces that were soon hanging in the gallery. His artworks began selling quickly and greatly supplemented his work. Carl moved from Tulsa to Houston Texas, and focused on his artwork as a career. He got representation from a top designer, who showcased his work, resulting in a major purchase from the M.D. Anderson's Cancer Center filling the hospital's second floor. His works are in many corporate and private collections, including former Houston Rocket's star, Hakeem Olajuwon. Carl also loved dancing and had a passion for music and playing the piano. Survivors include a brother, Paul Cochran and wife, Frances of Vergennes; a sister, Tany Steckenrider of Christopher; three nieces; one nephew; three great-nieces and one great-nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents. As per his wishes he was cremated. Published in The Southern Illinoisan on April 25, 2013
