    3. THOMPSONVILLE - Clovis Burton Hall, 79, passed from this life Saturday, March 16, 2013, in Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion. Clovis was born the youngest of five children on Sept. 19, 1933, to Charles Leroy "Roy" Hall and Jesse Gazel Hall of Thompsonville. Later his father married Unile Marie Hunroe. His brothers and sisters were Afton Laverne Hall of Pacific, Mo., Mrs. Eutha Nadine Miller of Thompsonville, Marion Lestus Hall of Thompsonville and Mrs. Romona Bozarth of Marion. In 1957 he married Marlene Kimmel of Thompsonville who has been his loving companion for 55 years. Clovis graduated from Thompsonville High School at age 16, then attended Lockyear Business College in Evansville, Ind. Upon gradation he became employed at the Chrysler Corp. in Evansville. It was at this time that he was called to serve his country. He was in the US Army from 1953 to 1955. Upon his discharge he returned to his former job at Chrysler for several years. Clovis was in banking for 11 years, working at the Bank of West Frankfort and the Bank of Benton. Until his retirement, he worked at Freeman 4 coal mine in Pittsburg as a repairman, mine examiner and hoist engineer. He was there for 20 years. He attended the Mount Zion Freewill Baptist Church in Thompsonville. He enjoyed teaching Sunday school, leading song service, and serving on the board of trustees. Clovis also enjoyed being a mentor to the young members of his church. He was also a member of the Akin Lodge, the American Legion and the Mensa Society. Clovis liked to garden, to fish and he was an avid deer hunter. He also loved observing and feeding the many ducks, geese and swans which graced his backyard pond. Nobody would have wanted to tease him about eating any of his ducks, either. He especially liked traveling with his wife and this took them to all 50 states and to several foreign countries. Survivors include his wife, Marlene; his sister, Eutha Miller: sister-in-law, Ann Hall; brother-in-law, Harold Kimmel; sister-in-law, Sylvia. He also has 15 nieces and nephews; several great-nieces and nephews, all deeply saddened by the loss of their Uncle Clovis. Preceding him in death are his parents, Roy Hall and Jesse Odum; stepmother, Marie Hall; father-in-law, Warden Kimmel; mother-in-law, Alma Kimmel, both were of Thompsonville; two brothers, Afton and Lestus; and one sister, Ramona. The family wishes to thank everyone who has visited, given condolences and especially prayed during this time. Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 21, at First Baptist Church in Thompsonville, with the Revs. Gary Clark, Jim Flannigan, Randy Carney and Kent Dunford officiating. Interment will follow at the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Thompsonville. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, at Sloan Funeral Home in Galatia; and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the church. Memorials may be made to the Mt. Zion building fund.
