The kitchen was located next to the study hall at the school with a swinging door between the rooms. A few current Waltonville residents still remember her sneaking cookies to them during their study hall hour. During that time at the high school she took two months leave of absence and made the trip to Centralia to attend Beauty School. She then passed her exams and became a licensed Beautician and operated a Beauty Shop out of her home for many years. For extra income she and neighbor Nina Dees also hung wallpaper for homes in the Waltonville area for a number of years. > > In 1969 she married Kermit Newell in a private ceremony at her daughter Maxine's home.
