HERRIN - Josephine Calcaterra, 77, passed away 9:55 p.m. Thursday, March 14, 2013, surrounded by her loving family at the home of her daughter in Murphysboro. Josephine was the bookkeeper for the Calcaterra Feed Store for many years and also worked at Boren's IGA Grocery Store in Herrin. She was an active member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church singing in the church choir and working on the funeral luncheon committee. Josephine was born July 27, 1935, in Freeman Spur, to John and Theresa (Camarato) Lamatina. Josephine was united in marriage with Carl Lee Calcaterra Sept. 3, 1956, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin. He preceded her in death July 21, 1995. Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Carla Suits of Herrin, Tina and Dennis Followell of Murphysboro; her grandchildren, Katie Robertson and her husband, Charley, of Murphysboro, Kevin Followell of Murphysboro, Amy Schmidt and her husband, James, of Carterville and Ronald Lee Basler of Herrin; one great-granddaughter, Carlee Cadence Robertson with a great-grandchild due in October 2013; brother and sister-in-law, Angelo and Madeline Lamatina of St. Louis, Mo.; sister-in-law, Lorene Calcaterra of Herrin; nieces and nephews, Joe Lamatina, Jeff Lamatina and his wife, Linda, Joletta Malone and her husband, Steve, and Andrew Calcaterra and his wife, Dana. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Calcaterra; father, John Lamatina; mother, Theresa Lamatina Sprague; stepfather, James S. Sprague; brother-in-law, Roy Gene Calcaterra; and a nephew, John Lamatina. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday, March 18, in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin, with Monsignor Ken Schaefer officiating. Interment will follow in San Carlo Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday at the church. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois, 204 Halfway Road, Marion, IL or to OLMC, 316 West Monroe, Herrin, IL 62948. Envelopes will be available at the church.
