    2. BLS
    3. Edna Louise (McClintock) Moore, 82, died Sunday March 17, 2013 at 5:10 P.M. at home. She was the second of four children born to the late Charley and Reba McClintock. She had an older sister, Vivian Ruth Yoder, who is currently in the Mt Vernon Health Care Center; a younger brother, Earl Richard (deceased); and the youngest of the four children (who died young), “Kenny Boy” McClintock. Edna married her childhood sweetheart, James R. Moore, May 21, 1950. They had two daughters, Cheryl Lynn of Johnston City and Shelly Kay of Bloomington, Illinois. Cheryl married Dennis Bernhardt and they have one son, Jaymes Floyd. Shelly married Mark Nelson and they have a son, Marshall Alexander and a daughter, Elizabeth Marie. Edna had one great granddaughter, Jaydon Bernhardt. Edna was born and spent her young days in West Frankfort, Illinois prior to the family moving to Johnston City where she graduated from Washington Elementary and Johnston City High School. After high school in 1949, Edna began work as a seamstress for Smoller Brothers and from there she moved to being “the bookkeeper” for the Johnston City State Bank. Her bookkeeping talent carried her to a position with E. Blankenship and Company where she stayed until leaving to be with her husband in the United States Air Force. Her two years of experience as a bookkeeper landed her a position as “head bookkeeper” for the “Old National Bank” in Spokane, Washington. After three years and knowing she was going back to Southern Illinois with her husband, Old National held a special meeting for recognizing and praising her for outstanding service. Returning to Southern Illinois in 1956, she continued her bookkeeping career working for E. Blankenship and Company, Carterville State Bank, Martin Oil Company, and the Busey Bank in Urbana, Illinois. After retiring in 1965 to spend more time with her daughters, she later accepted a request by Paul and Katherine Odom to work in their store part time. She was there until the store closed. Edna was known for her detail, thoroughness, hard work, integrity, punctuality, and stick-to-it-ive-ness. Her knowledge and skill came through experience, reading, and self learning. She was held in high esteem by her friends and family as a cook and seamstress. She was loving, kind, humble, gentle, caring, courteous, beautiful inside and out, and her laughter was exuberant when she and her dearest friend and sister-in-law, Juda Grounds got together. Edna loved and cared for her own children and grandchildren, as well as her nieces, nephews, friends of her children, and children of the Church. So many times sacrificing self to share with others. Indeed, her love and caring for others was “real” and she shared it in many ways--ways that only a few ever knew about. No one had to sing her the song “stand by your man”—for her it came naturally. Edna cared for her mother for some fifteen years as well as her sister for over three years, both of whom suffered from Alzheimer’s. Edna Louise Moore earned her PhD in SHARING the old fashioned way, by doing. A lasting and true friendship, even to this day, developed very early in life for Edna. That friendship was with Phyllis Sanders. No closer friendship ever existed. It was a friendship of love, trust, and devotion. At the age of fifteen Edna was baptized into Christ and as a member of the First Christian Church in Johnston City, she taught bible lessons for over thirty years as well as serving in a diversity of ministries. Visitation will be at the Murman & Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City on Wednesday, March 20 between 12:00 and 2:00 P.M. Funeral services, under the direction of her husband Jim Moore, will follow and begin at 2:00 P.M. Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery in Johnston City.
