    3. JOHNSTON CITY - Tom "Pops" Kirkpatrick, 77, passed away peacefully at his home Thursday March 7, 2013. Tom was born Nov. 4, 1935, in Sesser to Ivan and Geneva Bennett Kirkpatrick. He was united in marriage to Betty Jo Hale until her passing in 1964. He later married Flo Davis July 26, 1969, and she survives. Tom was a police officer and chief of police in Johnston City for many years. He also was a coal miner for Zeigler Coal Company and then a custodian for the Johnston City school district. Tom loved to spend time with his family, especially his grand kids. They were his pride and joy. He is survived by his wife, Flo Kirkpatrick; sons, Tim (Patti) Kirkpatrick, Randy (Glenetta) Kirkpatrick, all of Johnston City, and Kevin (Jamie) Davis of Pueblo West, Colo.; grandchildren, Kelli Jo (Brock) Babington, Kyle (Erika) Kirkpatrick, and Kris (Jessica) Kirkpatrick, all of Johnston City; great-grandsons, Kaden Koenig, Brady Babington and Karson Kirkpatrick; sister, JoAnn Clarke of De Soto and sister-in-law, Frances Kirkpatrick of Mount Vernon and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Betty; in-laws Ralph and Ida Hale of Christopher; brother, Bill Kirkpatrick of Mount Vernon; sister, Iva Jean White and her husband, Jr. of Sesser; brother-in-law, Gene Clarke of De Soto; sister-in-law, Katherine (Jim) Lewis of Sesser; brothers-in-law, "Si" and Ozella Seagle of Stiritz; and William David Seagle; and half brothers Melvin Ray and Kenneth Kirkpatrick. Tom was a member of the UMWA, Buccaneers Club, and a 50-year Mason. The family would like to thank his caretakers, Phillip Macier and Susan Padilla. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 10, in Murman and Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City, with Pastor Larry Stevens officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery of Johnston City. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Masonic rites will be at 7 p.m. conducted by Lake Creek Masonic Lodge 729 of Johnston City.
