JONES cabin - can someone either give me a summary of what this building is - when it was built and by whom etc. I will add this info to the picture on Flickr. Catherine mentioned Nathan JONES. I'm not familiar with his history. Debbie V. Debbie, Nathaniel W. Jones moved to FCI in 1819 from Wilson Co, TN. when he was 9 years old. He was s/o Moses Jones and Elizabeth Allen. At age 22 he volunteered for Black Hawk War. After he returned home he married Mahala Cleveland about 1835 so would assume the log cabin in picture was built about this time. After her death he m Elizabeth Summers Jackson 18 Jan 1855 FCI. He had 7 children with Mahala, Mary Alice, Andrew, Sarah Jane (mine who m Hiram Summers 1857) Sidney, John, Scott, & Martin b about 1849 who died as a baby along with his mother about the same time. The 2nd marriage to Elizabeth had James A, Elizabeth Irene, twin of Mahala & Martha E. On 9 march 1853 Nathaniel was appointed supervisor of all the roads in Dist # 30 beginning at Robert Clancy Summers place. This was his father in law. He had land off what is now HY 34 half way between Hanaford & Parish, IL. Jones Cemetery is located there and I was told his log cabin in that picture was located there. In talking to some old timers in Thompsonville a older man said he remembered that Nathaniel loved to play the fiddle and people would come out to his place, they would have big dances there. Nathaniel was born 1810 in Wilson Co TN to Moses Jones JR and Elizabeth Allen Jones, he was one of 7 children of Moses. Moses m 1st Hester Thomas in Gates Co, NC.19 Sept 1791. Whose father was Moses Sr who had lived in Isle of Wight Co VA. where Moses Jr was born. I found that Moses SR had about 5 children, two sons and 3 daughters. Moses JR brother William was also in Rev War and both ended in Wilson Co TN after the war. Moses listed as having bought land from Nathan Allen 19 Sep 1802 in Wilson Co on Bartons Creek, 220 acres. Then he bought land from Samuel Thomas 8 Feb 1808, which was 150 acres. He sold land in Wilson Co in 1816 and came to FCI. His brother William died a little before Moses moved from Wilson Co and some of Williams sons came up to Ill with their Uncle Moses along with Moses children in 1819.This family was very interesting and books were written about them. -----Original Message----- From: ilfrankl-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:ilfrankl-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Debbie V.
