CHRISTOPHER - Betty Jean Porter, 87, of Waukee, Iowa, formerly of Christopher, died Thursday, March 21, 2013, in Legacy Pointe Nursing Center in Waukee. Throughout the years, Betty and Paul lived in Christopher, Springfield, Detroit, Mich., Salem, N.H., St. Louis, Mo., Austin, Texas, and Marion. For the last year, they have been residents of Waukee. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Heartland Christian Church in Marion. Betty was born Jan. 21, 1926, in Christopher, to Carl "Sam" and Joyce (Mosley) Rowland. She married Paul Porter Nov. 8, 1946, and he survives of Waukee. Survivors include children, Joyce Clingan of Urbandale, Iowa, and Paula (Bruce) Leggett of Coeurv' Alene, Idaho; grandchildren, Melinda Davis, Angie (Rusty) Lawler, Ryan (Brie) Leggett; great-grandchildren, Riley Lawlar, Breckon Lawlar, Maddox Lawlar, Macy Davis, Bradley Leggett and Caleb Leggett; and brother and sister-in-law, Dean (Dolores) Rowland of Springfield. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Delores Rogers; and two brothers, Kenneth Rowland and Ed Rowland. Mrs. Porter's wishes were to be cremated with graveside services. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, in Masonic and IOOF Cemetery in Benton, with the Rev. Randy Allison officiating. Interment will follow.
