ZEIGLER - Shirley (Whitehead) Serles Trusty, 71, died at 3:56 p. m. Wednesday, March 20, 2013, in Westside Care Center in West Frankfort. Mrs. Trusty was born Sept. 4, 1941, in West Frankfort, the daughter of James Whitehead and Flossie (Ramsey) Whitehead. She married James C. Serles, her high school sweetheart, and he preceded her in death Feb. 8, 2002. She later married Carl R. Trusty and he survives and resides in Zeigler. Shirley worked at several places over the years including Grandpa Johns, K-Mart, and First Bank in West Frankfort. She also worked as a volunteer at the V.A. Medical Center in Marion. She was a member of the First Church of God in West Frankfort. In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Deborah (Don) Russell of Sullivan; a son, Timothy J. (Cindy) Serles of Johnston City; four grandchildren, Amanda Weaver and Mindy (Johnathan) Yoder, all of Sullivan, Timothy A. Serles of Marion, and Tyson C. Serles of West Frankfort; three great-grandchildren, Kobi, Darius, and River; a stepdaughter, Sherry Trusty of West Frankfort; a stepson, Terry (Tammy) Trusty of Zeigler; seven stepgrandchildren, Terah (Jason) Keim of Carterville, Heather Trusty, Beth Trusty and Brandi Simpkins, all of West Frankfort, Billee and friend, Robert, of Harrisburg, Tiffanie and Erin Rogers of Johnston City, Cindy's mother, Sandra Tippy of Johnston City; five great-stepgrandchildren, Caylah, Macey, Eli, Lucy and Gavin. She was also survived by two very special cousins who were like sisters, Sharon Raymond and Georgia Colp. Mrs. Trusty was preceded in death by her parents and husband, James C. Serles. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 24, in Union Funeral Home in West Frankfort, with Pastor Matt Frizzell officiating. Shirley's body will be cremated, per her request, and her cremated remains buried at the Denning Cemetery in West Frankfort.
