I noticed yesterday that there are a couple of photographers on Flickr that post pictures taken all around FCI - most are fairly recent. But you never know when a building is going to be torn down. http://goo.gl/3n4Kf These are all public pictures. Not sure if you have to log in or not to view. I just put "Franklin County Illinois" without the quotes in the search box up in the upper right and a lot came up. Debbie V.
About Flickr. I cannot take the pictures without permission but I can put a link to the page which I did. sd ----- Original Message ----- From: "Debbie V." <debvee60@gmail.com> To: <ilfrankl@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, March 29, 2013 10:21 AM Subject: [ILFRANKL] speaking of FCI pictures... >I noticed yesterday that there are a couple of photographers on Flickr that > post pictures taken all around FCI - most are fairly recent. S usan, Yes, that was my intent - that people will visit the photographs on Flickr and provide information about the buildings. Some of them appear to very old and there is really no explanation as to what it is or what it might have been. For instance - this old building in Ewing - I wonder what it was at one time. http://goo.gl/HZzGO This is where the goodness lies - in getting people who may know about these things involved with the pictures. Debbie, I pulled up the picture of Log Cabin in Thompsonville and identified it as the cabin of my 6th great grandfather, Nathaniel Jones which was still in excellent shape when the Historical Society purchased it and moved log by log into the middle of town from out East of Benton near the Jones Cemetery. I was given the key years ago to go through and was amazed at the good shape it was still in and marveled at how with so few tools could a man take down those great big trees, haul them to the place they were building their home and lift up on top of one another. I sent the article while ago but doesn't look like it is going to come through, possibly because it had a picture with it. There is so much history with that Jones family. One of the grandsons built the large, well known Jones Department store in Kansas City. I have a signed book written by John Logan Jones who built that store. If you want more information about him go to Google and put in Jones Department store build by John Logan Jones. Sandy I put some of the pictures you sent me online already. I need to know if Dale has no objections to me putting the picture post cards and Franks Fort article online. Dale do you know which paper the article about Plumlee was in and about what date? Susan
This is probably a really dumb question, but: how does one go on Flickr and how does one access the photos? ----- Original Message ----- From: "Debbie V." <debvee60@gmail.com> To: <ilfrankl@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, March 29, 2013 11:32 AM Subject: Re: [ILFRANKL] speaking of FCI pictures... > S > usan, > > Yes, that was my intent - that people will visit the photographs on Flickr > and provide information about the buildings. http://fcihg.genealogyvillage.com/hisplapic.html Carol Go to this page on the FCI site. Go to the bottom of the page and you will see 2 links to Flickr. One for Franklin Co, and the other for Thompsonville. There may be other pages as well but I didn't look for any more. If you see something interesting let us know. Just high light and copy the url in the address bar and paste it in an email. sd ----- Original Message ----- From: "CAROL GARBO" <luvs2dance4@frontier.com> To: <ilfrankl@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, March 29, 2013 5:24 PM Subject: Re: [ILFRANKL] speaking of FCI pictures... > This is probably a really dumb question, but: how does one go on Flickr > and > how does one access the photos? > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Debbie V." <debvee60@gmail.com> > To: <ilfrankl@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Friday, March 29, 2013 11:32 AM > Subject: Re: [ILFRANKL] speaking of FCI pictures... > > >> S >> usan, >> >> Yes, that was my intent - that people will visit the photographs on >> Flickr >> and provide information about the buildings.
