I'm reposting this only to show that whoever wrote Lillie's obit made it seem like she was married to Vallie till he died. Apparently they had been divorced for some time. The Mt. Vernon Register-News, Thursday, June 23, 1977 Lillie Cross Missouri Lillie F. Cross, 79, St. Louis, Mo., died Wednesday morning at Lutheran Hospital in St. Louis. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Maple Hill Cemetery at Sesser, with the Rev. Lem Myers officiating. Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at the Brayfleld Funeral Home in Sesser. Mrs. Cross was born Sept. 25, 1897, the daughter of Charles and Addle (Foster) Featherstone. She married Vallie Cross, who preceded her in death. Survivors include a son, Dwight of St. Louis; four grandchildren; a great- grandchild; two sisters, Delaine Chastain of Orange, Calif, and Edith Hill of Elgin; and a brother, Edward of Florida. Does anyone know for sure what Stella's maiden name was? This has her name as Stella Irene Ashley and married once. Does that mean she had been married once before or this is her first marriage? It has her father as Monroe Bennett, so it is confusing as to what her maiden name was. Also if she had been married once, had Vallie been married twice before? Does anyone know anything els about Stella?
