Mona Lee McDaniel, 85, of West Frankfort, passed away Monday, March 24, 2014 at 11:35 a.m. at her residence. She was born July 20, 1928 in West Frankfort to Donald Stagner and Nina Griffin Nelson. She married Howard L. McDaniel on January 23, 1949 in Johnston City and he preceded her in death on April 26, 2004. Survivors include two daughters, Amy Runyan and Tamara Culpepper and husband, Tim all of West Frankfort; a son, Randall McDaniel of West Frankfort; two grandsons, Michael and wife, Regina Culpepper of Saginaw, Tx. and Richard Culpepper of West Frankfort; four great grandchildren, Aaron, Hannah, Frankie and Winton; many cousins including Diane Capps Cole; sister-in-law, JoAnn Maze and special redbird fan, Fay Pearce of West Frankfort. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Howard. She was graduate of FCHS class of 1948. She was a very active member of the Second Baptist Church in West Frankfort and the Homemakers Sunday School class. A member of the Delta Theta Tau Sorority for 43 years where she served in many capacities and the Redbird Booster Club and was a St. Louis Cardinal Baseball fan. She formerly worked as a switch board operator for the telephone company for many years. Funeral services will be Thursday, March 27, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Parker - Reedy Funeral Home in West Frankfort with Dr. Brett Beasley and Rev. Alan Summers officiating. Burial will be in the Denning Cemetery on Orient Road. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Second Baptist Church, the Delta Theta Tau Sorority or the W.F. Redbird Athletic Dept. and will be accepted at the funeral home.
