    3. I would like to add some newer information for SILAS MERCER WILLIAMS researchers. This concerns a Supreme Court Document in the State of Tennessee at Carthage, TN. Mary ********************************************************************** The case is A.(lmedius) D.(avid) W.(ashington) WILLIAMS vs. James WALTON - August Term 1835 (This is a thirteen page document beginning in October 1831 and I am only going to post parts of it.) I think almost everyone knows that the father of Silas Mercer WILLIAMS is Joseph WILLIAMS and that Joseph's Will is missing from the records in Smith County, TN. According to this document that Will has been missing from the beginning and I quote from the document. START***************"Judd STROTHER a witness for Defendant stated that in 1810 Marmaduke WILLIAMS had not much property, but owned a negro man George - that he was not much embarrassed, if any at that time - That he was a man who sold property freely and at reduced prices to pay his debts - that he would give him full credit upon oath, and believed him to be an honest man. He was a witness to the Will of Old WILLIAMS the father of Marmaduke and Morgan that it was proved, but could not be found. John H. BROWN once produced a copy of said Will in this Court House, which was rejected, because the original was not accounted for."******************************END It is clear in this document that Silas Mercer WILLIAMS, Morgan WILLIAMS and Marmaduke WILLIAMS are brothers; and that Almedius David Washington WILLIAMS is the son of Marmaduke WILLIAMS; and that the wife of Marmaduke WILLIAMS is Elizabeth WILLIAMS. When Almedius WILLIAMS married Helen Finney, he name his parents as M. D. Williams and Emeline Buford. Could her name be Elizabeth Emeline Buford? Almedius WILLIAMS was born about 1810/1811. (He is now age 21 when this case begins.) This document concerns a slave named Sarah and she has three children: Stephen, Joe and Nancy. She is about three years older than Almedius and born about 1807/1808. START****************And I quote from the document: Exhibit A: State of Tennessee Smith County - Know all men by these presents that I Morgan WILLIAMS of the County and State aforesaid have for divers causes this day given to Almedius David Washington WILLIAMS a certain negro girl by the name of Sarah now three years old the title of which negro I will warrant and forever defend unto the said Almedius David Washington WILLIAMS. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and fixed my seal this 16th day of February, one thousand eight-hundred and eleven.*************************** END of INFORMATION CONCERNING SLAVE DOCUMENT ******************************************************************* Most of us have thought that Silas Mercer WILLIAMS had two brothers Joseph and John but this document clearly refutes that belief. Smith County, Tennessee - 20 April 1806 Joseph John Williams - M. D. Williams Bill of Sale Smith County - June Term 1806. The Executors of the within Bill of Sale of Joseph John Williams to Marmaduke WILLIAMS was proven in open court by the oath of Morgan WILLIAMS a subscribing witness there to and ordered to be recorded. Test. Robert Allen, Clk. Know all men by these presents that I Joseph John WILLIAMS of the County of Smith and State of Tennessee have this day bargained and sold unto Marmaduke WILLIAMS of the County and State aforesaid one negro girl by the name of Franky also the balance of my dower of the Estate of Joseph WILLIAMS deceased for the sum of four hundred dollars to me in hand paid by the said M. Duke WILLIAMS and I do forever warrant and defend the said negro and dower unto the said M. D. Williams his heirs and assigns forever and from my self my heirs or any other person or persons claiming of the same whereunto I have set my hand and seal this 20th of April 1806. Attest: Jos. John WILLIAMS (Seal M. WILLIAMS (Jurat) *********************************************************************** Know all men by these present that I BROWNING B. WILLIAMS late of the County of Smith and State of Tennessee for and consideration of the sum of two-hundred dollars to me in bond paid by Marmaduke WILLIAMS of the County and State aforesaid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have bargained sold and delivered and by these present do bargain sell and deliver unto the said Marmaduke WILLIAMS one negro boy by the name of Tom as witness whereunto I have set my hand and affixed my seal this 10th day of January 1806. Browning WILLIAMS (Seal) State of Tennessee Smith County March Term 1806 The handwritten and signature of Browning B. WILLIAMS to the written Bill of Sale was proven in open Court by the oath of Morgan WILLIAMS and ordered to be recorded. Test: Robert Allen, Clk. ************************************************************************ Proven children of Joseph WILLIAMS Morgan Williams (his Will dated 15 Jun1812 and proven September Term 1812) Marmaduke Williams Browning B . Williams John Joseph Williams Elizabeth Williams (married a BAKER) Silas Mercer Williams (youngest son born 1792) Sarah? "Sally" Williams (no information) Mary? "Polly" Williams (no information) I would assume that Morgan, Marmaduke, Browning and Jos. John were all age 21 or older and born before 1783 since they were selling slaves. I have no firm birth or death dates for them. There is a Marmaduke WILLIAMS on the 1830 Smith County, TN census and if this is in fact him he is listed as male age 50-60 making him born 1770-1780. ************************************************************************ Shortly after the slave case: A.D.W. WILLIAMS was in Jefferson County, IL by 1840 Silas Mercer WILLIAMS was in Franklin County, IL by 1840 ____________________________________________________________ The #1 worst carb EVER (avoid) This health food causes fat gain, wild energy & blood sugar swings http://thirdpartyoffers.juno.com/TGL3131/5321d593bbb3b559305best01duc
