From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] WEST FRANKFORT -- Charles R. Ballard, 73, died at 8:40 p.m. Saturday, April 26, 2014, at home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 29, in Union Funeral Home in West Frankfort with Father Sean Palas officiating. Interment will be in Tower Heights Cemetery in West Frankfort. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. He was born Oct. 22, 1940, in St. Louis to Rupert and Naomi (McKenzie) Ballard. He married the former Jeanene Sweet and she survives. Mr. Ballard was a retired truck driver who worked for Hogan, Bione and Thomason Trucking Company. He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in West Frankfort and had served in the U.S. Army. Survivors include his wife, Jeanene Ballard of West Frankfort; son, Chris Ballard of Herrin; daughter, Catherine (Dennis) Rich of West Frankfort; brother, Gary (Kendra) Ballard of Herrin; sisters, Sharon (Roy) Lavender of Energy and Gracie (Lynn) Cole of Thebes; and six grandchildren, Caitlin, Garrett and Makinley Rich and Dylan, Lily and Kenzie Ballard. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Bob Ballard. The family would like to send a special thank-you to ACHS, Hospice of Southern Illinois and VA Medical Center in Marion.
