    3. Billy Cobb Obituary JOHNSTON CITY -- Billy Gene Cobb, 81, passed away at 4:01 p.m. Saturday, April 12, 2014, in Herrin Hospital, with his family by his side. Billy was born April 26, 1932, in Johnston City, to John George and Mary Helen (Earnheart) Cobb. He married Rosa Joan Lemons on June 12, 1957, in Marion. Together they have shared nearly 57 years of marriage. Billy was retired, having been a coal miner at Freeman 4 Coal Mine for many years. He was previously employed by Arab Pest Control. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served his country honorably during the Korean War. He was of Baptist faith and was a member of UMWA. Billy enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping before his health began to fail. He especially loved to spend time with his family and friends at Rend Lake and Lake Barkley on family camping trips. Survivors include his wife, Rosa of Johnston City; son and daughter-in-law, David Lee (Candy Lynn) Lemons of Christopher; six grandchildren, Stacie Vercellino of Newburgh, Ind., Heather (Mike) Galloway of Sesser, Josh Lemons of Du Quoin, T.J. (Jamie) Gray of Benton and Justin and Jamie Lemons of Du Quoin; seven great-grandchildren; Paxton Higgerson, Chase Gray, Peyton and Trey Phillips, Katie and Matt Galloway and Cameron Lemons; three brothers, Jack (Shirley) Cobb of West Frankfort, Albert "Mac" Cobb of Thompsonville and Ronnie Cobb of Johnston City; four sisters, Connie (Bill) Gardner of Johnston City, Rosalee Simmons of Johnston City, Carolyn (George) McPheron of Johnston City and Ruth Walenta of Marion; three brothers-in-law, Wade Lemons of Sesser, Gary (Donna) Lemons of Sunset, Texas and William Sisk of West Frankfort; nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Mary Clendenin and Betty Sisk; an infant brother, John Cobb Jr.; brother-in-law, Lloyd Lemons; and two sisters-in-law, Sharon Cobb and Gloria Lemons. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 16 in Pyle Funeral Home in Johnston City, with Pastor John Adams officiating. Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Johnston City. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Marion VFW Post 1301, American Legion Post 147 and members of the Illinois National Guard Military Honors Team. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to or Coach Kill Cancer Fund.
