Smith of Elk Grove Village, IL, formerly of West Frankfort, died April 11, 2014, in Glendale, Ariz. He was born Oct. 4, 1933, in West Frankfort, to Curtis and Freda (nee Day) Smith. Lew is survived by his wife of 57 years, Patricia (nee Earl); daughter, Lynn; son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Christine; and his best buddy and grandson, Brian, all of Elk Grove; brothers-in-law, George Earl of Elk Grove, and John Earl of West Frankfort; sisters-in-law, Joy Roth of Herrin and Anita Earl of Westchester; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Paul; parents-in-law, George and Faye Earl of Zeigler; brothers-in-law, Carl Earl of Westchester, Dr. Daniel Roth of Herrin, and sister-in-law Marlene North Earl of Elk Grove. Lew was the owner of Premier Plastics Corp., in Elk Grove for 35 years. He was a commissioner on Elk Grove Park District Board for 18 years, a member of Small Business Board of Illinois Manufacturer's Association, and active in other local civic organizations. A celebration of his life will be Saturday, April 26, in Fox Run Golf Links in Elk Grove.
