Cravens, 88, of Dover, N.H., formerly of Portsmouth, N.H. passed away Wednesday, April 16, 2014, in Langdon Place of Dover. She was born Oct. 5, 1925, in Christopher, the daughter of the late Stanley and Barbara (Filipiak) Ference. Virginia was formerly employed at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. She was preceded in death by her husband, Retired Chief Master Sgt. Homer A. Cravens, U.S. Air Force; and siblings, Raymond and Joseph Ference and Barbara Smith. Survivors include two sons, Stanley Cravens and his wife, Debra, of Madison, Wis., and Thomas Cravens and his wife, Brenda, of Lebanon, Maine; grandchildren, Matthew Cravens and his wife, Alyson, Melissa Raitt and her husband, Tony, and Staff Sgt. Joshua Cravens, U.S. Army Reserves, and his fiancee', Sgt. Amanda Rood, U.S. Army Reserves; great-grandchildren, Dominic Raitt, Archer Cravens, and Robert Cravens; and her brother, Eugene Ference of Mount Vernon. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 19, in J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel at 84 Broad St., in Portsmouth. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 18, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wentworth Home Care and Hospice, 121 Broadway 115, Dover, N.H. 03820, or Salvation Army, 15 Middle St., Portsmouth, N.H. 03801.
