Vernon Register-News, Thursday, May 16, 1968 Edmond Bates Of Sesser Dies Today Edmond Bates, a Sesser resident, died at 4:00 a.m. toady at Franklin County Hospital in Benton at the age of 73 years. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Brayfield Chapel with the Rev. Bobby Cardin and Rev. Clifford Hicks officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill cemetery. The body will lie in state at Brayfield Chapel where friends may call after 2:00 p.m. Friday. Mr. Bates was born March 22, 1896, in Franklin county the son of Killeybrew (sic.) and Malinda (Lewis) Bates. He married Sybil Harrison, who survives. Other survivors include four sons, Harry, Elmer, Howard, all of Sesser, and Lysle (sic.) of West Frankfort; five daughters Mrs. Arcada Prior, Mrs. Leida Downen, Mrs. Juanita Dillner, all of Sesser, and Mrs. Edna Hamilton of Sauk Village, Ill., and Mrs. Mary Hoofer, of Belleville; a brother, Noah Bates of Sesser; a sister, Mrs. Rachel Stockton of Sesser, 27 grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
