ROYALTON -- Jack W. Smith, 84, passed away at 4:20 a.m. Sunday, April 27, 2014, in Shawnee Christian Nursing Center in Herrin. Jack was born Dec. 15, 1929, in rural DeKalb County in Indiana to John T. and Ethel E. (Pepple) Smith. He married Eunice Ann Jones on Sept. 15, 1950, in Wolf Lake, Ind., and she survives in Royalton. Together, they shared 63 years of marriage. Other survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Kathy and Paul Eastwood of Edwardsville and Marilyn Gossage of Herrin; four grandchildren, Claire Eastwood of Edwardsville, Janna Eastwood of Westerville, Ohio, and Bill (Anglia) Alexander and Brandie Alexander, all of Florida; three great-grandchildren, James, Jordan and Lilly Alexander of Florida; and one great-great-grandson, Carter, of Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Dan Smith. Jack was a member of First Christian Church in Hurst. He preached at Royalton Christian Church for a number of years. Prior to going into the ministry, he worked in construction. He was a 50-year member of Royalton Masonic Lodge. He also was a 50-year member of Zeigler Chapter 841 Order of the Eastern Star, serving as Worthy Patron in 1983 and as sentinel for several years. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 30, in Vantrease Funeral Home in Royalton with Greg Parker and Paul Eastwood officiating. Burial will be in Miners Cemetery, east of Royalton. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Eastern Star services will be at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Mr. Smith are suggested to Southern Illinois Christian Service Camp, P.O.
