His In-law's were Ralph M and Serina Pearl CARLTON SMITH EVANSVILLE -- Elvin "Lefty" Schwind, 85, passed away at 3:40 p.m. Friday, April 4, 2014, in River Pointe Health Campus. Lefty was born Feb. 10, 1929, in Christopher, the son of the late Jacob and Rosella (Wolz) Schwind. He was a 1946 graduate of Christopher High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a 59-year member of First Christian Church and currently a member of Crossroads Christian Church. Lefty retired as branch claims manager from Ohio Casualty Insurance Co. after 30 years of service. He was a member and past president of Tri-State Adjustors Association. Lefty was a 50-year member, past master and thrice potent master of Reed Masonic Lodge 316 and a member of Scottish Rite, Hadi Temple, past worthy patron of Eastern Star, member and past president of Legion of Honor Drum and Bugle Corp and 33rd Degree Mason. He is survived by nieces, nephews, special friends and caregivers, Sharon and Jon Boyles and a host of other friends and lodge brothers. Lefty was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Mary Schwind in May 2013 and two brothers, Howard J. and Ray A. Schwind. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 9, in Boone Funeral Home East Chapel, 5330 Washington Ave., Evansville, with the Rev. Darren Mirante and Rod Hoschouer officiating. Graveside committal will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in IOOF Oddfellows Cemetery in Benton. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, in Boone Funeral Home - East Chapel where there will be a Hadi Shrine, a Drum and Bugle Corp and a 33rd Degree Mason walk through at 6:30 p.m. and a Reed Masonic Lodge 316 memorial service at 6:45 p.m. Memorials may be made to a favorite Masonic charity.
