Harry Emmerson Staley, age 86 of Mount Vernon, Illinois died at 8:14 P.M. Saturday, January 24, 2015 at Mount Vernon Countryside Manor in Mount Vernon, Illinois. He was a 1st Sergeant in the 5th Regimental Combat Team of the U.S. Army and was a Veteran of the Korean Conflict; he worked for Vernois, Inc. for 38 years and later with Mount Vernon Township Laborers. He farmed part-time and had been a member of East Salem Missionary Baptist Church since October 10, 1943. Funeral Service for Harry Emmerson Staley will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois, with Reverend Richard McCormick presiding. Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. until Service Time 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. Internment will be at the East Salem Cemetery in Jefferson County, Illinois. Members of Mount Vernon American Legion Post #141 will conduct Full Military Honors at the cemetery. Buchanan of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Shelia D. Strole and husband Chris of Mount Vernon, Illinois and Michelle L. Baumgarte and husband Clint of Benton, Illinois; and 2 Brothers: Ivan Staley and wife Francis of Mount Vernon, Illinois and Howard Staley and wife Phyllis of Mount Vernon, Illinois. Eight Grandchildren, Six Great Grandchildren, Several Nieces and Nephews also survive. Harry Staley was born on Saturday, April 21, 1928 in Texico, Illinois to Orie & Edith (Scott) Staley. He married Mildred Marie Meador on October 22, 1949 in Jefferson County, Illinois and she preceded him in death on January 18, 2007. He was proceeded in death by his parents, his wife, his sister: Eloise Pakish, and two brothers: Elmer and Bob Staley.
