    2.   Edna Lou Hayes, 80, of Kell, died 4:50 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2015, at Crossroads Community Hospital in Mt. Vernon. She was born Thursday, June 21, 1934, in Benton, the daughter of Willard and Madaline (Wilson) Downen. She was first married to Charles Leffler and he survives. She married William Robert “Bill” Hayes and he preceded her in death on Jan. 25, 2003. Edna worked at the Brown Shoe Factory in Salem and later as a dough maker at Pizza Man in Salem. She is survived by her chosen son, Richard Ross of Kell; sons, Charles Ray Leffler and wife Heidi of Vincennes, Ind., and Jack Leffler and wife Cindi of Andover, N.J.; chosen daughters, Jessica Bryan and husband Jim of Salem and Denice Racine of Chesterfield, Mo.; brother, Harold Downen and wife Karen of Royalton; sisters, Betty Woodward of Evansville, Ind., and Jewel Johnson and husband Marion of Bloomington; daughter-in-law and friend, Barbara Ann Skabialka and Michael of Carnes, Miss.; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and two stepsons, Michael and Johnnie Bob Hayes. In honor of her wishes, Edna will be cremated following the public visitation. Graveside memorial service will be held at Old Baptist Cemetery near Waltonville at a later date. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. tonight at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. For those who wish, memorials may be given to Old Baptist Cemetery and will be accepted at the funeral home or mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt. Vernon, IL 62864.
