James “Jim” Bernard Marquis, 81, of Benton, IL, died at 9:58 p.m., Tuesday, December 30, 2014, surrounded by his family at his residence after a short two week courageous battle of cancer. Mr. Marquis was born on February 23, 1933 in Franklin County, IL the son of Guy and Thelma (Clark) Marquis. He married the former Roberta “Lorene” Flannigan and she preceded him in death. Mr. Marquis was a United States Army Veteran. James retired from Rend Lake as a groundskeeper & mechanic. He enjoyed trail riding at the High Knob Ranch with his friends. James was a loving family man and had a special place in his heart for his pet dog Jake. Surviving relatives include his children, Sheila Breslich and husband Steve of Delavan, WI and Theresa Tomasino of Indianapolis, IN; three grandchildren, Talena Caza, Nick Caza and Lindsey Saunders, three great-grandchildren, Nevaeh, Ashton and Selaeh; a sister, Shirley Marquis, a nephew, Rickey Karroll and wife Star; a great-niece, Lindsey Karroll; dear friends, Carol and Linda Walker and Sharon and Bruce Rogers. Mr. Marquis was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a sister, Phyllis J. Mezo; two brothers, Charles Ray Marquis and Gordon Lee Marquis. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be accepted at the funeral home.
