| Dorene Lindsey, 83, died at 2:45 p.m. Friday, Jan. 23, 2015, in Westside Care Center, surrounded by her family and best friend. Dorene was born July 16, 1931, in West Frankfort, to August and Lena (Bernardoni) Pattarozzi.She was a daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She was the matriarch of the family. Her greatest pride and joys were her son and three granddaughters. She devoted her life to her family, cooking big spaghetti dinners, hosting family pool parties, following her son and grandchildren in their athletic and academic careers, carpooling a backseat full of kids everywhere from school to the mall, playing golf, cards, dominos, and dancing with her closest group of girlfriends. She loved baseball, Yankees, Derek Jeter, and a highball on the rocks. She never turned down a shopping trip and was well known and loved for her colorful, spit fire spirit; breaking the rules and spoiling her children. Frank was the love of her life. Together they enjoyed traveling, swimming, golfing and playing cards with their friends. Vegas was their favorite destination."Grandma" was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church, St. John’s St. Bernadettes, a former volunteer of the year for Alzheimer’s Association, and Papa John’s number one box folder.Surviving relatives include son, Steve and wife Diane Lindsey; daughter-in-law, Nancy Lindsey; grandchildren, Jill (Adam) Schoenborn and Andi Lindsey; great-granddaughter, Lexie Schoenborn; nieces, Beth Milby and Rena Krantz; great-nieces, Nicki Anderson, Sarah Conner, and Miranda Marx; friend, Edith Massey; and her dog, Coco.She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Lindsey; parents; and brother, Reno Pattarozzi.Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, in Boner Cemetery in West Frankfort, with Monsignor Ken Schaefer officiating. Burial will follow. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Union Funeral Home.Memorials may be made to St. Louis Children’s Hospital or St. Bernadettes Sodality. Envelopes will be available and accepted at the funeral home. |
