Cassie Layne Muir, 34, of Herrin, Illinois, formerly of Zeigler, passed away peacefully at 3:37 p.m., Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. Cassie was born September 21, 1980 in Herrin to Lane and Donna (Cox) Muir. She is survived by two wonderful children, Courtney Bailey, 14 and Cole Wright, 11 both of Zeigler; her mother, Donna Cox Muir of Zeigler; her father, Lane Muir of Royalton; a brother and sister-in-law, Daryl and Jenifer Muir of Lee’s Summit, MO and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Ms. Muir was preceded in death by her grandparents, Frankie Cox of Zeigler, Delores Cox of Energy and Dorris Muir of Royalton. Cassie was a 1999 graduate of Zeigler-Royalton High School and was a friend to many in the Zeigler and Royalton area including, Brian Gonzalez of Herrin. Funeral services for Ms. Muir will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, January 25, 2015 at Vantrease Funeral Home in Zeigler with Pastor Lynette Barnett officiating. Burial will be at Miners Cemetery, east of Royalton. Visiting hours after 12:00 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home until the hour of the services.
