Willis L. Hewlett Jr., 81, of Thompsonville, passed away at 5:55 p.m. Friday, March 13, 2015, at his residence with his loving family by his side. Willis was born Feb. 6, 1934, in Herrin, to Willis and Mary Ellen (Little) Hewlett Sr. He married Naomi Moake on Dec. 25, 1956, in West Frankfort. Together they shared 51 years together before her passing on May 31, 2008. Willis was retired from the U.S. Army after 22 years of honorable service to his country. He was also retired from the Marion VA Medical Center where he worked in the dietary department for 20 years. Willis was of the Christian faith. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed going fishing and bird hunting with his sons. He loved to spend time with his family who brought him joy. Survivors include three sons, Larry L. (Stephanie) Hewlett of Woodstock, Alabama, Bryan K. Hewlett of Thompsonville, Willis L. (Theresa) Hewlett III of Thompsonville; seven grandchildren, Dustin L. (Dianna) Hewlett of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Brandy (Donald) Vojvodich of Marion, April (Brandon) House of Woodstock, Alabama, Lindsey (Jacob) Tutor of Johnston City, Jacob Hewlett of Pittsburg, Samuel Hewlett of Johnston City, and Brandon (Stephanie) Hewlett of Ft. Walton Beach, Florida; 11 great-grandchildren, Dalton, Lexi and Tyler Vojvodich, Briggs and Stratton Glass, Kennedi Rae Hewlett, Joshua Glaze, Zoe Kate and Noah Lee Hewlett, Jericho and Lemuel Tutor; and six brothers and sisters. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; and one sister. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 18, in Pyle Funeral Home in Johnston City, with the Rev. James Rivett officiating. Interment will follow in Boner Cemetery, south of West Frankfort. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Marion VFW Post 1301, American Legion Post 147 and members of the Illinois National Guard Military Honors Team.
