    3. Southern Illinoisan Mar 29, 2015 CHRISTOPHER -- Charles Joseph Antonelli, formerly of Christopher, passed from this life on March 17, 2015, at his home in Armada, Michigan at the age of 67. He was born Dec. 28, 1947, to George and Mary (Czauskis) Antonelli, who owned Antonelli's Grocery in Christopher. Charles was a graduate of Saint Andrew's Catholic School and Christopher Community High School class of 1965. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from McKendree College and a Master's degree from Sangamon State University in Springfield. Well respected for his intelligence, Charles served his country in the Military Police in the U.S. Army. He was an electrophoresis technician at Doctor's Hospital in Carbondale, a mental health specialist, both at Lincoln Developmental Center and Anna State Hospital. He served as a psychological consultant for multiple group homes in Michigan. Charles' beloved wife, Mary Jo (nee Nelson) preceded him in death in 2008. Survivors include a brother, Dr. George Antonelli; two daughters, Mary Catherine Bernard and Alisa Hassan; and twin grandsons, Haitham and Ali Hassan. He also leaves a chosen brother, Dr. Gary Jackson and special friends Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bowen and Mr. and Mrs. James Sharp. Charles donated his extensive Native American artifact collection to McKendree College. His other passionate interests included voracious reading, coin collecting, and a strong interest in law enforcement. Charles contributed generously to animal rescue work in his community. He was always proud to be a member of the American Legion. He was laid to rest in Willow Grove Cemetery in Armada, Michigan.
