Jo Ann Grimes, 84, former resident of Franklin County, passed away on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at UNM Hospital, Albuquerque, NM. She was born in Logan, IL the daughter of Humbert & Wilma (Taylor) Sanders. She married Claude D. Grimes, and the Lord blessed their union with three sons. Jo Ann loved to read and visit with friends. She was a caring and generous individual who loved the Lord above all else and who was passoniate about helping others. She was an active and dedicated member of Jackson Grove Church for many years. After which she served the Lord faithfully at Immanuel Baptist, where she enjoyed the fellowship and friendship of many. She left this worldly life just as she lived it, eyes upon the Lord and filled with love for her family and friends, concerned more for their well-being than her own. Jo Ann is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Samuel and Reita Grimes, NM; daughter-in-law, Sharon Grimes, KS; grandchildren, Stephanie, Kenneth, Joseph, James and Jessica. She was preceded in death by her parents, Humbert & Wilma Sanders, brother and sister-in-law, Don and Dorothy Sanders; husband, Claude Grimes and sons, John and Jeffrey Grimes. As Jo Ann requested, her ashes were interred beside Claude at Shiloh Cemetery. A memorial is scheduled for February 22, 2015, 2:00 P.M. at Immanuel Baptist Church, Benton, IL. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Jo's life. The family would like to thank all those who gave their time and love assisting and caring for Jo Ann during the later years of her life.
Anyone know more about her husband's Grimes ancestry? I'm always curious about any Grimes that might be connected to my ggg grandmother Lucretia P. Grimes (1837-1908) d/o James Grimes and Elizabeth Browning. Lucretia's first husband was Isaiah Josaih Rich (my line). After his death, she married Abijah Morris Highsmith in Crawford Co, IL and they both died in Jefferson Co, IL in 1908 and 1909.
