    3. Mt Vernon Register News Posted: Tuesday, February 10, 2015 6:00 am James B. Kelley, 94 years and five months, of Mt. Vernon, died 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 8, 2015, at Mt. Vernon Countryside Manor in Mt. Vernon. He was born Wednesday, Sept. 8, 1920, in Sesser, the son of Orlie and Daisy (Bean) Kelley. He married Norma Lee Dykes on June 6, 1947, at Central Christian Church in Mt. Vernon and she preceded him in death on April 19, 2011. James was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II and through his actions and injuries sustained in the line of duty earned the distinction of being a Purple Heart Awardee, but due to his nature and dedication to God and country, he would not accept the medal. Following the war, he was a bookkeeping manager for Texaco Oil Company and was a longtime member of Central Christian Church. James loved to fish and going for coffee at McDonalds. He is survived by two grandchildren, Braden Kelley and Brianna Kelley of Mt. Vernon; daughter-in-law, Karen Kelley of Mt. Vernon; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Jane and Andy Hutchens of Ina; sister-in-law, Phyllis Dykes of Mt. Vernon; special friends, Esther and Dennis Schulz of Ashley; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; their son, James B. “Tab” Kelley; two brothers, Kenneth and Dwight Kelley; and granddaughter, Jessica Kelley. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the chapel at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn with Mr. Randy Sells and Mr. J. Howard Kraps officiating. The Chaplain of Mt. Vernon American Legion Post 141 will conduct a flag presentation service following the funeral. Interment will be at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service Friday in the chapel at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn. For those who wish, memorials may be given to the Central Christian Church or to donor’s choice and will be accepted at the funeral home or mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt.
