| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Shirley “Granny” Smith, 76, of Herrin, passed away 5:30 p.m. Monday, February 2, 2015 at the Herrin Hospital with her loving family at her side. Shirley retired July 16, 1995 from Norge Industries after 20 years of employment. Shirley was born February 19, 1938 in Herrin, IL to Thomas and Mabel Irene (Annis) Oakley. Shirley was united in marriage with Wesley Smith on September 18, 1982 in Herrin, IL. He preceded her in death on August 20, 1999. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Melanie Jacques of Carterville; three daughters and a sons-in-law, Jackie Jacques of Herrin, Rhonda and Phil Michael Kerrigan of Herrin, Karla and Phil Tomaszewski of Clermont, FL; nine grandchildren, Andy Kerrigan, Jamie Kerrigan, Joshua (Courtney) Finney, Zachary Shelton, Christopher Shelton, Stephanie (Matt) Powell, Samantha (Casey) Wilkins, Shawn Jacques and Christina Miller; eight great grandchildren with two great grandchildren due, one in April 2015 and another in July 2015; two brothers and sister-in-law, Jack and Tammy Oakley of Orient, Jerry Oakley of Zeigler; sister and brother-in-law, Sue and Chuck Leeper of Zeigler and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Jimmy Dean “Buster” Jacques; parents; sister, Brenda Jones and four brothers, Thomas Oakley, Donald Oakley, John Oakley and Larry Oakley. Private Family Services will be at Meredith-Waddell Funeral Home in Herrin with Rev. Don Colson officiating. Interment will be in Herrin City Cemetery in Herrin.
