Judy Askew, 61, of Mt. Vernon, died 2:59 a.m. Friday, Feb. 20, 2015, at Good Samaritan Regional Health Center in Mt. Vernon.  She was born Wednesday, Dec. 2, 1953, in Mt. Vernon, the daughter of Lugene Smith and Pauline (Miller) Smith Wilson. She married James Robert Askew on April 23, 2000, in Mt. Vernon, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 5, 2013. Judy worked as a caregiver at Addus Healthcare in Mt. Vernon and was a member of New Life Harvest Church in Mt. Vernon. She is survived by mother, Pauline Wilson of Mt. Vernon; two daughters, Melissa Lorch and husband Rick of Indianapolis and Michelle Crum and husband Frank of Mt. Vernon; four grandchildren, Corey Hall and fiancee Sarah Glass of Mt. Vernon, Tyler Hall of Mt. Vernon, Christopher Johnson of Sesser and Abby Johnson of Mt. Vernon; two brothers, Alson Smith of Mt. Vernon and Dennis Smith of La Place; two sisters, Phyllis Bopp and husband Robert of La Place and Linda Smith of Mt. Vernon; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father; her husband; and one brother, Rodney Smith. Celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at New Life Harvest Church in Mt. Vernon with Pastor Corey Hall officiating. Mrs. Askew will be cremated following the funeral service and a burial of ashes will take place at Old Orchard Cemetery in Jefferson County at a later date. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the time of service Monday at New Life Harvest Church in Mt. Vernon.
