Daniel Earl Watkins, 69, of Zeigler, Illinois went home to be with the Lord at 11:13 p.m., Sunday, February 8, 2015 at Herrin Hospital. Daniel was born April 14, 1945 in Herrin to Harland and Reathel (Finney) Watkins. He grew up in the Lick Creek area, as well as places in California. He came back to Southern Illinois in 1965. He met his future wife, Frances in West Frankfort at that time. They married February 26, 1966 and settled in Zeigler in 1974. Celebrating 49 years of marriage, she survives in Zeigler. Dan was an avid fisherman, wood worker and gardener. Any given day, he could be found on the lake in hunt of "the big one", making sawdust in the garage or working in his garden. Dan worked as an auto body repairman for 53 years and also worked several years as a coal miner for Old Ben #27 mine. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather who will be sadly missed. He was well known, loved and always willing to help out family and friends. In addition to his wife, Dan is survived by a daughter, Theresa Pearson of Zeigler; a son-in-law and daughter, Terry and Polly Woodfall of Royalton; his bestest buddy and granddaughter, Mackenzie Jo Pearson of Zeigler; two brothers, Chuck Watkins of Benton and James Watkins of West Frankfort and many nephews, nieces and cousins. His parents; two brothers, Hank and Georgetwo sisters, Esther and Shelby and a granddaughter Danna Nichole preceded him in death. Joyce Elizabeth Kennedy Tessone, 74, of West Frankfort passed away Sunday, February 15, 2015 at the Benton Hospital with her loving family at her side. Joyce was born April 23, 1940 in Chicago, Illinois to Henry and Fern Laird Kennedy. She leaves to mourn her passing, her beloved husband, Dewayne Tessone of West Frankfort, sisters Darlene Blanchard of Starke, Florida and Marilyn Bird Kennedy of Herrin, Illinois, special cousin, Joyce Bavier Waller Gilmore of Christopher, IL and many nieces, nephews and cousins who loved her dearly. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, two sisters Maxine Hallam and Charlene Logamann, a brother Dale Kennedy and a special Aunt Nina Laird Bavier. Joyce was of the Christian faith. Norman E. Lancaster, 77, of Royalton, Illinois passed away at 9:40 p.m., Sunday, February 8, 2015 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Norman was born December 5, 1937 in Rienzi, Mississippi to Vernon and Ruby (Downs) Lancaster. He married Helen M. Powers June 16, 1958 in Missouri. She survives in Royalton. Other survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Norman E. (Teri A.) Lancaster, Jr. of Herrin, Eddie V. (Lori) Lancaster of Carbon Hill and Michael D. (Sarah) Lancaster of Newark, Delaware; a daughter and son-in-law, Levesia M. (Daniel) Hujda of Mokena; eight grandchildren; three sisters, Marjory Colaric of Coal City, Francis Baker of Poplar Bluff, MO, Brenda Maschmeyerof Memphis, TN; two brothers, Henry Lancaster of Poplar Bluff, MO and Martin Lancaster of Cape Girardeau, MO and numerous nieces and nephews. His parents preceded him in death. Mr. Lancaster retired after 31 years at Caterpillar in Joliet and a past Village President in Royalton serving two terms. He served four years in the United States Navy. He was a member of the Royalton Church of the Nazarene; Royalton Masonic Lodge and Lions Club. He was a former member of IHSA, baseball/softball umpire and wrestling referee. He was a member of the Coal City High School Chain Gang. In accordance with his wishes, he will be cremated. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Margie Louise Ray, 88 passed away Thursday afternoon, Feb.12, 2015, at Angel Acres. She was born May 14, 1926 at home in Prosperity the daughter of Herman and Marietta (Brown) Davis. She married Harry F. Ray on March 9, 1944 and he survives. Together they shared 70 years, 11 months and 3 days of marriage. Margie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to many. She will be missed greatly. She enjoyed senior lunches at Andresen’s with her friends until her health failed. In her early years she loved to play softball, hunt and fish. She also enjoyed going to Crab Orchard Lake and staying on the houseboat. She was very proud to be the matriarch of 3 sets of 5 generations. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Herrin, Illinois. Margie is survived by her husband, three daughters, Barbara Buckner and Mary Ray Foster both of Johnston City, Sheryl Ray-Eaton of Herrin, Daughter in-law, Jean Ann Ray of Johnston City. Steve Camden, 57 passed away February 14, 2015 at his home. Steve was born to Irvin and Dorothy (Buckner) Camden. He is survived by his wife Debbie Camden of Benton and his mother of Benton. They had two children Lisa and Thad Logsdon of Sesser and Stephen Bryan and Mandy Camden of Sesser. Grandchildren Brian, Chelsea, Tori, Beau, Dalton, Dylan. Two brothers Barry and Thea Camden of Dahlgren and Kenny Camden of Benton. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his Father. He was a member of the Stormrider’s and was known as Tin Man. He was also a member of the UMWA and was retired from CONSOL mine. He was a Veteran of the Army. He loved riding his Harley and spending time with family and friends, he will be sadly missed by his family and friends and all that loved him. Especially his little buddy Rocky. Eric B. McKee Jr. and Imogene Hayes McKee passed away January 19, 2015 in Physicians Regional Healthcare System in Naples, Florida. Eric was born November 14, 1921 in West Frankfort to Eric B. McKee Sr. and Estella Anderson McKee. He was married to Imogene Hayes McKee for sixty seven years. He preceded her in death by seven hours and being a gentleman he held the door open to heaven for her. He was a lifetime member of the First Baptist Church of West Frankfort. He retired from SIU as the Chief Engineer of the power plant. Previous to that he owned McKee Refrigeration Service. He served in the US Army during WWII. Eric was a lifetime member of the American Legion and the Refrigeration Service Engineers Society. He was 1993 Man of the Year for the Illinois Chapter of the Refrigeration Service Engineers Society. He was also an active member of the Class of 1939 Reunion Committees. After retirement Eric enjoyed family, friends, and fishing. He spent half of the year in Marco Island, Florida fishing. Imogene Hayes McKee was born in West Frankfort on July 3, 1923 to Leman and Edna Pearl Hayes. She married Eric B. McKee Jr on April 10, 1947. They had been married for 67 years when she followedhim to heaven. She was a lifetime member of the First Baptist Church of West Frankfort, Illinois and also attended First Baptist Church of Marco Island when she was staying there. In her professional life she worked at the Banterra Bank (formerly Bank of West Frankfort), Bonifield Trucking Company, Jacobs Lane Jewelers, and the Daily American. She was a member of the Business and Professional Women’s Club. After retiring Imogene and Eric took ballroom dancing lessons and they spent many hours enjoying their new pastime. Imogene loved needlework, traveling, and her family and friends. Eric and Imogene were true lovebirds. Everyone who saw them always said “what a cute couple!” Theirs was a love that did not end in death but continued into eternity. Harold “Hal” Tennison, Jr., 56, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 12, 2015. Hal was born on May 24, 1958, in Fairfield, Calif., to Harold Tennison, Sr. and Claudean (Holman) Spry. Hal was an avid outdoorsman. He loved fishing, hunting and collecting Indian artifacts. He was an accomplished taxidermist and a brick mason. Hal was baptized at Second Baptist Church. He was loved and will be missed so much. He is survived by his mother, Claudean Spry and stepfather Bill Spry of Marion; sister, Dana Garavaglia and husband Chuck of Herrin; nephew, Dalton Kennerly of Herrin; and his father, Harold Tennison, Sr. of Ewing and longtime companion, Sheila Kays of Ewing. Norma Louise Riley, age 91, of Mount Vernon, Illinois passed away Thursday, February 12, 2015 at her home in Mount Vernon. Norma worked for 12 years as cashier at the Mammoth Department Store in Mount Vernon. She got her cosmetologist license in the late 1950’s and worked at Goldblatt’s discount store in Chicago before opening her own shop, Norma’s Beauty Shop, in Mount Vernon in the early 1960’s. She was an Eagles Women’s Auxiliary member and was a Demolay Mother. She was very family oriented and will be remembered for never forgetting a special event in the life of her nieces and nephews. She wrote poems for birthday remembrances, enjoyed making and decorating cakes for all occasions and she worked in many different crafts. Nickolas "Beez" D. Beasley, 23, of Zeigler, IL, died Friday, February 13, 2015, as the result of a auto accident between West Frankfort and Zeigler. He was born on December 21, 1991, in Carbondale, IL, the Son of James Monti Logsdon and Jennifer A. (Beasley) Menz. Nickolas was a graduate from Zeigler-Royalton High School. He was employed at M-Class Mine near Akin working in the maintenance department. Nick was a loving son and will be dearly missed by many. He was known for his out going personality and sense of humor. His passion was for music, he was self-taught. Nick found joy in playing his guitar and writing music with his friends. Mr. Beasley was preceded in death by his father, James Monti Logsdon, grandparents, Norma Rose Wilcox and George Albert Beasley. Nickolas is survived by his mother, Jennifer A. (Beasley) Menz, step-father, Bradley J. Rose Marie Patten, 86, of Benton passed away Monday evening, February 9, 2015 at the StoneBridge Senior Living Center. She was born in St. Joseph, MO on January 12, 1929, the daughter of Harry W. & Marie (Rosenbaum) Jensen. She married Harlan Lee Patten on October 4, 1950, and he preceded her in death on January 25, 1956. Rose was a longtime active and faithful member of the First Christian Church in Benton. She was a retired police dispatcher for the City of Benton. Three things she loved after family was her Benton Firefighters, Benton Rangers & John Wayne. Naomi M. Wilkerson, 87, of Benton passed away Tuesday afternoon, February 10, 2015 at her home.She was born in Benton, IL on July 30, 1927, the daughter of Everett & Allie (Midyette) Dawson.She married Ezra Wilkerson on October 28, 1944, and he preceded her in death on March 29, 1999. Mrs. Wilkerson first worked at General Electric, then Sangamo Electric and several sewing factories. She enjoyed cleaning houses for people until she was 80 years old. Mrs. Wilkerson was a member of the Christopher Church of Christ. Bettye June Lockman Lauderdale was born September 27, 1926 in West Frankfort, Illinois to William Redman Lockman and Alma Faye Lawrence Lockman. She passed away February 9, 2015 in Mascoutah, IL. She attended grammar and high schools in West Frankfort. She was raised in a loving Christian home, surrounded by cousins and adult relatives who filled her young life with joy. In high school, Bettye was editor of several school publications and was first chair trumpet. She was often called out of class to play "Taps" for the military funerals of local fallen soldiers in WW II. Bettye attended SIU Normal School (now SIU) in Carbondale, Illinois, and became a teacher. Her first teaching job was in Golconda, Illinois. She met a handsome school teacher there, Eugene Lauderdale, who soon became her husband. Bettye and Gene raised corn, beans, hay, cattle, sheep, hogs, coon dogs and bird dogs, and four girls in their forty-nine years together. Their girls, Jean Ann McBride, Marybeth Lauderdale, Julia Lynn Orzeske, and Alice Jane Green and their unions brought Bettye 23 grand and great-grandchildren. Bettye taught at Pope County High School and the Meridian School District, at both elementary and high school levels, for a total of twenty-six years. She also worked as the secretary at the University of Illinois Dixon Springs Experiment Station, where her husband was the Flock Foreman. Bettye taught at Shawnee College and Vienna Correctional Center. Her former students, of whom she was always very proud, span the world. For Bettye's 80th birthday, her daughters established a scholarship at SIU honoring her many years of teaching. Bettye was active in and loved her community and they loved and cared for her with great kindness. She was active in the Golconda Historical Society, the Garden Club, the Retired Teachers' Association, the Pope-Hardin County Homemakers, the Singing Huggers, the Golden Circle Senior Center, the Farm Bureau, Relay for Life/American Cancer Society, Caravan for Christ, Trinity Methodist Church of West Frankfort, Mt. Zion Cemetery Association, and the First United Methodist Church of Golconda. Bettye will be long-remembered for her participation in local fundraisers, in particular at the age of eighty-five, emerging from a large wedding cake in a bachelor party skit while wearing her bathing suit. Bettye showed her community spirit by riding on the Golden Circle floats and serving as Grand Marshall of the annual Deer Festival Parade. Gale M. Zettler, 69 of Centralia, passed away Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia. Gale enjoyed boating, fishing, baking and hiking. Patricia Ann “Patti”(Stubblefield) Tooley, age 51, of West Frankfort, IL, formerly of Marion and Johnston City, passed away at 1:50 a.m. on Sunday, February 8, 2015, in Good Samaritan Regional Health Center of Mt. Vernon, IL. She was born on Wednesday, December 18, 1963, in Marion, IL the daughter of, Vernell “Vern” and Rosalie (Segretario) Stubblefield. Early in her school years she attended school in Marion. Her family then moved to Johnston City, IL and she attended school in Johnston City and was a graduate of Johnston City High School in 1982. She continued on with her education attending John A. Logan College in Carterville, IL. Patti was united in marriage to James William “Bill” Tooley on Friday, February 3, 1989, in Marion, IL and together they have shared over twenty-six years of marriage. The majority of Patti’s working career has been in factory type work. During her working career she worked for Pattin-Marion Roof Bolt Company of Marion, Schellar Globe of Herrin, and later with Olin/General Dynamics of Marion. She is a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church of West Frankfort, IL. Some of her other memberships and activities include a term of service on the St. John’s Catholic School Board, former member of the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary in West Frankfort, IL and was former member of the Illinois Professional Pet Breeders Association. In her spare time she bred and sold registered champion poodles all over the United States and some internationally including Germany and Afghanistan. She was known for her knowledge of the desirable qualities of the large poodle breed. Three of the most memorable poodles she remembered were named “Ceasar”, “Tenille” and “Duchess” that they kept and raised. Also in her spare time she loved to cook for her family and their many gatherings. She is survived by her husband, Bill Tooley of West Frankfort, IL; son, Vern Tooley of St. Charles, MO; daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca Marie and Bill Schmidt, III of Carterville, IL; sister, Verna McNeil of Royalton, IL; niece, Amy McNeil and her companion, Brad Daron both of Carterville, IL; nephew, Chris McRoy of rural West Frankfort, IL; brother-in-law, John Tooley and wife, Belinda of Newburgh, IN, sister-in-law, Sara Tooley of Centralia, IL and other extended family and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law, James and Esther Tooley and brother-in-law, Larry Tooley.
