    2.   Ms. Sophie Roll, 96, of Lake City passed away peacefully on Monday afternoon March 2, 2015 at the Health Center of Lake City after an extended illness. She was born in West Frankfort, Illinois on March 26, 1918 to the late John Lewsowski and Veronica Barcko. She has lived in the Lake City area for the past 18 months and was a Retail Clerk at Ace Hardware for many years. She was of the Catholic faith and loved to sew and Knit. She also loved to cook. She is survived by her son: Jerry Castagna (Carolyn) of Lake City, FL; grandchildren: Holly and Sylvia (Pepper) Castagna of Lake City, FL and great-grandchild: Lily Feagle Moore (David) of Lake City, FL. Close friends: Peggy Sue Logan and Davee Follwell of West Frankfort, Illinois also survive. Funeral services will be at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, March 6, 2015 in the Parker-Reedy Funeral Home in West Frankfort. Burial will be in the Lithuanian Cemetery in West Frankfort. Mrs. Knight was born September 14, 1923, in Franklin County, Benton, Illinois, to Amanda and Robert Kivett. She was married to Paul Knight, Jr., who proceeded her in death in 1990. Mrs. Knight was a long-time resident of Beecher, Crete, and Steger, and moved to Oglesby two years ago to be close to her daughter. She was a retired homemaker with a large extended family. Mrs. Knight is survived by her four sons, three daughters, and many grand-, great-grand-, and great-great-grandchildren. Sons are Paul Knight and wife, Betsy, of Wheeler, Oregon; Gary Knight and wife, Joanne, of Lansing, Kansas; Glen Knight and wife, Marybeth, of San Jose, California; and Evan Knight of Grant's Pass, Oregon.     2.   Charles Edward Mahalick, age 94, of Marion, IL, passed away at 9:15 p.m. on Sunday, March 1, 2015, in Memorial Hospital of Carbondale, IL. He was born in West Frankfort, IL on Wednesday, June 23, 1920, the son of John H. and Mary A. (Sandrock) Mahalick. He attended school in West Frankfort and was a graduate of West Frankfort High School in 1939. Charles enrolled into the Civilian Conservation Corps, at the age of nineteen on April 11, 1940, and served until he was honorably discharged on July, 19, 1941. He again answered the call of this nation on October 26, 1942, by serving in the United States Army in Company B 44th Tank Battalion during the time of WW II in the Asiatic Pacific Theater being stationed in New Guinea and the Philippines. After his period of faithful service he was honorably discharged on November 5, 1945, with the rank of Technician Fifth Grade. Charles was united in marriage to Carol Bury on Sunday, July 6, 1947, in Chicago, IL and together they have enjoyed over sixty-seven years of marriage. His working career was with the Wm. Wrigley Jr. Company of Chicago, IL as a welder for thirty-five years until his retirement. After his retirement he moved to Herrin, IL and later to Marion. He is a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Marion, IL and also a member of American Legion Post No. 1961 of Orient, IL. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting and fishing, making jewelry, dancing and was known as a cartoonist artist. His family was a very important part of his life and the many memories that have been created will now be cherished by those left behind. He is survived by his wife, Carol Mahalick of Marion, IL; three nieces, Barbara Reimbold and her husband, Ed of Dunwoody, GA, Stephanie Koller and her husband, Robert of Arlington Heights, IL, and Dorothy Polzin and her husband, James of Downers Grove, IL, two great nieces, two great nephews, four great-great nieces and two great-great nephews, other extended family and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, John. Arrangements for Charles Edward Mahalick have been entrusted to Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, 900 N. Court St., Marion, IL. The time of the visitation for family and friends will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 5, 2015, at the funeral home. Following the time of visitation the funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Monsignor Thomas Flach presiding. Gary was a truck driver. He also served in the U.S. Navy and was a Vietnam veteran. He is survived by his children, Sherry White, of Valier and Gary Eugene Gully, Jr. of Valier; grandchildren Stephanie White, Chelsea White, Leslie White and Ryan Gulley; two brothers, David Gulley, Benton, IL and Douglas Gulley, Sesser, Il and one sister, Gloria Bryant, of Christopher, IL.     2.   Howard C. Johns, 85, of West Frankfort passed away at 12:48 p.m. Saturday, February 28, 2015 in the Franklin Hospital in Benton. He was born November 1, 1929 in Thompsonville to Earl and Amy (Williams) Johns. He married Susie (Weiss) Johns on November 24, 1973 in West Frankfort. Survivors include his wife, Susie Johns of West Frankfort; daughters, Debbie Richardson of West Frankfort, Theresa Carpenter of Centralia and Deanna (Douglas) Anderson of St. Louis, Mo.; sons, Danny Talbott of New York and David Talbott of West Frankfort; brother, Clinton Ray (Ruby) Johns of West Frankfort; sisters, Eva Sommers and Cynthia Ann Filkins both of West Frankfort; 12 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. Mr. Johns was of the Seventh Day Adventist Faith and served in the United States Army. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, March 5, 2015 in the Parker - Reedy Funeral Home in West Frankfort with Pastor Ron Shelton officiating. Burial will be in the Tower Heights Cemetery in West Frankfort with military rites by the Orient and Zeigler American Legions, VFW of West Frankfort and by the Illinois National Guard Military  Honors Team of Marion.     2.   Roberta Lynne (Grant) Wells went to be held in the arms of her savior and heavenly father, after a valiant eight-year battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her family when she passed away at 1:04 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, 2015. She was born to Allen Dale and Mary Lynette (Hurd) Grant on Sept. 19, 1960, in El Paso, Texas, and they survive of South Roxana. She was a homemaker, who loved to spoil her children and grandchildren. She loved to work with flowers and to find bargains and then sell them on eBay. She also loved the outdoors and was an excellent fisherwoman. She is survived by her husband of 27 years, John Wells of Sesser; daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie Lynn (Wells) Hosick and her husband, Carl Lee Hosick of Benton; son, Joshua Allan Wells of Sesser; stepdaughter, Nicole Lynn Ogle and her husband, Jeff Ogle of East Alton; four glorious grandchildren, Tre’ Daniel Hosick, Trinity Jael Hosick, Derek Eugene Ogle and Emily Louise Ogle. Also surviving are four brothers and sisters, Thomas Grant of Wood River, Rebecca and Mitch Mossman of Alton, Robert and Sheila Grant of South Roxana, Barbra and Randy Helmkamp of Bunker Hill; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Marion and Ruth Wells of Sesser; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Mark and Tammy Wells of Scheller, Ross and Lawana Wells of South Roxana, Beth and Mickey Kleiboeker of Nashville, Peggy and Alvin Bernard of Belle Rive; and many nieces and nephews. Donna was born on January 8, 1936, in Brocton, IL the daughter of Odes and Maude (Harmon) Wilcoxon. She married husband Melvin Norris Webb on January 29, 1955 and he preceded her in death on October 16, 1996. She then married Bill B. Smith on December 24, 1997 and he preceded her in death on April 19, 2011. Mrs. Smith retired from the Ewing Grade School as a secretary. Donna was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, Benton, IL she was previously a member of the Frisco Baptist Church until it closed and member of the Homemakers. She was the former Franklin County Farm Bureau Wife of the Year, and Chaplin Assistant at the Franklin Hospital, Good Samaritan Hospital and Herrin Hospital. Donna loved her family dearly. She enjoyed quilting and playing cards with her friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Odes and Maude (Harmon) Wilcoxon, first husband, Melvin Norris Webb, second husband, Bill B. Smith, one sister, Elsie Walsh, three brothers, Jim, Bill, and Fred Wilcoxon, two sister-in-laws, Clara Wilcoxon and Christina Rose, and three brother-in-laws, Erskine Lee Webb, Burdette Walsh and Ralph Hunt. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 28 at Gilbert Funeral Home in Christopher with the Rev. David McConnell. Burial will be in the Harrison Cemetery in Buckner. Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. Sunday. Mrs. Park was born on July 8, 1922 in Christopher, the daughter of Rich and Minnie (Rogers) Wall. She married Leodis Park who survives. Mrs. Park was a homemaker. She was a member of the Women of the Moose Lodge and the DAV Auxiliary in Christopher. Mrs. Park is survived by one son, Dean ann Scheiber, German Valley, Ill.; one step-daughter, Leeann Confer, Rockford; two grandchildren, Glori Miller and Treasure Davis; five grandchildren and five step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Talbert and Homer Wall and one sister, Mable Mitchell.
