    1. [ILFRANKL] OVERTURF (& RAY) families in Marion Co TN
    2. Roger Ray
    3. The recent mention of John Overturf (m. Jane Rea) reminded me of a few things I've come across in the last year regarding the Overturfs in Marion Co. TN.  Some of these may be of interest to Overturf researchers.   The earliest record I've for John Overturf in Marion Co TN is a land grant of 8 acres on 26 Jun 1824.  In the entry book it follows a grant of 50 ac to Thomas Ray on the same date. Thomas Ray and John Overturf are witnesses to a deed of 25 ac from Samuel Jackson to Hannah Ray on 16 Feb 1828.  [Hannah sells this parcel 28 Feb 1831] John Overturf sells his 8 acres plus another 22 acres to David Stanfield on 13 Jan 1827. However he does not immediately leave the area as both John Overturf and an Adam Overturf are found on the 1830 census of Marion Co.  [As are Thomas Ray and a Winny Ray] In addition John "Ovinberf" is found in the rolls of the Sweeten's/Sweden's Cove Primitive Baptist Church in 1825.  Then in 1830 John Overturf and wife Jane are received together into the church. http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~tnmario2/scpb4.html By the time of the 1836 tax list none of the Overturf or Ray families mentioned appear.  The Overturfs have gone to FCI.  The Ray families have presumably left or died. I have transcribed the deeds described above.  They can be found at http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~tnmario2/deeds.html I believe it is very possible that the John Overturf and Ray families mentioned above are related in some way.  In fact I have a [rather elaborate] hypothesis that would account for their relationship and to other FCI Rea families, but the evidence is still scant and circumstantial.

    3. Temps are rising here too. Supposed to be 80's by next weekend but we still have cooler weather than usual this week. We should be in 70's by Tuesday. Everyone is complaining about the cool/cold weather we've had this winter. I heard the east side of Phoenix actually had some snow on the ground. People came down here from Washington state to play golf at Talking Stick and found they couldn't because of snow. The golf course has never had to worry about snow so they have no equipment to do anything about it. They had to just let it melt. http://www.talkingstickgolfclub.com/index.php We didn't see any here on the northwest side but we had temps drop down in the high 30's a few nights. Strange when it was 80 on Saturday. Weather sure has been crazy this winter. 3. Here in SE Illinois, we have had rain, sleet, freezing rain and snow. Not a lot of any of those things; just enough to want to make it nasty & to want to stay inside. I have heard from a couple of friends that it is rather slick out. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sheldon Jones" <srjones@pcisys.net> To: <ilfrankl@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, February 21, 2013 6:28 PM Subject: Re: [ILFRANKL] Where is Everyone?? > Is it mainly sleeting there?
