Does anyone know who the parents of James Dewey Veach are? An obit is listed below but they are not included. he is listed as the grandson of Rada Reynolds. I have three children listed for Walter and Rada Cockrum Reynolds, all girls. Geniva, Hazel and Nadine. I have info. on Geneva as she was married to my dad's cousin, but don't have any info. on either Hazel and Nadine. Rada is part of my Brown family. Geneva was married to her third cousin Robert Loman. Bob The Southern Illinoisan, Thursday, February 4, 1960, SERVICES WEDNESDAY FOR BENTON NATIVE Funeral services were Wednesday in Fort Branch, Ind., for James Dewey Veach, 22, a Benton native who was killed Monday in a car-truck crash near Princeton, Ind. Veach leaves area relatives, grandmother Mrs. Rada Reynolds of Benton; grandfather John Veach of Sesser; and aunt Mrs. Geneva Loman of Herrin. Veach, an Evansville college student, died when his small foreign car was crushed under a truck.
Thanks for this info. I have been confused by the Roy Brown entry I have in my Brown file. I have wondered in the past if their might be two different Roy Brown's and this confirmed that. So does anyone know if Roy Howard Brown's father, Walter Brown connect to the Steven Brown Elizabeth Spoon family. Thanks for this information especially for John and Jane Rea Overturf. The other names mentioned are common to my Rea family line, but there is not enough info. to identify them Jane's mother was called Winnie for Winniford and her grandmother was called Hannah for Johanna, but both would have been dead by the time frame mentioned in the article. Bob -----Original Message----- From: Roger Ray <dzupina@yahoo.com> To: ILFRANKL <ILFRANKL@rootsweb.com> Sent: Fri, Feb 22, 2013 4:23 pm Subject: [ILFRANKL] OVERTURF (& RAY) families in Marion Co TN The recent mention of John Overturf (m. Jane Rea) reminded me of a few things I've come across in the last year regarding the Overturfs in Marion Co. TN. Some of these may be of interest to Overturf researchers. The earliest record I've for John Overturf in Marion Co TN is a land grant of 8 acres on 26 Jun 1824. In the entry book it follows a grant of 50 ac to Thomas Ray on the same date. Thomas Ray and John Overturf are witnesses to a deed of 25 ac from Samuel Jackson to Hannah Ray on 16 Feb 1828. [Hannah sells this parcel 28 Feb 1831] John Overturf sells his 8 acres plus another 22 acres to David Stanfield on 13 Jan 1827. However he does not immediately leave the area as both John Overturf and an Adam Overturf are found on the 1830 census of Marion Co. [As are Thomas Ray and a Winny Ray] In addition John "Ovinberf" is found in the rolls of the Sweeten's/Sweden's Cove Primitive Baptist Church in 1825. Then in 1830 John Overturf and wife Jane are received together into the church. http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~tnmario2/scpb4.html By the time of the 1836 tax list none of the Overturf or Ray families mentioned appear. The Overturfs have gone to FCI. The Ray families have presumably left or died. I have transcribed the deeds described above. They can be found at http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~tnmario2/deeds.html I believe it is very possible that the John Overturf and Ray families mentioned above are related in some way. In fact I have a [rather elaborate] hypothesis that would account for their relationship and to other FCI Rea families, but the evidence is still scant and circumstantial. ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to ILFRANKL-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
WEST FRANKFORT -- The world lost a good egg in Larry C. Vincent, 72, of Fort Myers, Fla., on Friday, Feb. 22, 2013, at Hope Hospice in Lehigh Acres, Fla. It was 2 a.m., because he never did anything at a decent hour. He arrived in West Frankfort on Nov. 12, 1940, and grew up among good working-class coal miners and other people he revered. He loved his college basketball (SIU Salukis, thank you very much) and his St. Louis Cardinals. He relished a large steak, a margarita (with salt, as he was no Philistine), marshmallow shakes from Dairy Queen and anything that was all-you-can-eat because Larry "Never Pay Retail" Vincent liked a good value for his dollar. He wiled away many an hour at Crab Orchard and Little Grassy running jugs, drinking Bud and sitting around a fire swapping fish stories. Survivors include his loving and devoted wife, Susanne; his children, Valerie McChesney, Nancy Vincent and Justin Vincent; sons-in-law, Bill McChesney and Drew Moore; grandchildren, Heather (Jonathan) Manetta, Holly (Daniel) Ades and Ryan McChesney; the three cutest great-grandchildren on the planet, Adrianna Manetta, Alex Manetta and Aubrina Ades; his sister, Connie (Vincent) Sieveking; his aunt, Alberta (Vincent) Tabor; and hundreds of other relatives and wonderful friends. Larry was a teacher and administrator by trade, and when he transitioned from working fool to retirement, he and Sue took to the camper and roamed the wilds of Florida. Never one to settle down to a life of leisure, he became a key character in Storage Wars long before A&E ever thought to film such adventures. It was his poker table. As he would tell his annoyed children before any task, "Busy hands are happy hands." Upon being informed by Sue that they needed to become foster parents, he agreed on the condition he would not have to take any of the girls to the bathroom. He did, of course, and much more, but that was just his way: in for a penny, in for a pound. He is now playing a wild game of pinochle with Johnny Cash, Hank Williams and James Dean, and having a nice family dinner with his parents and grandparents. All he would want from us is to crack open a beer, head out in a Jon boat and catch a big fish, while wondering what bait he would have used. Services will be at 6 p.m. March 4 in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Fort Myers, Fla., and at 6 p.m. April 2 in St. John's Catholic Church in West Frankfort. Larry "Never Pay Retail" would lament the waste of money on flowers, but he would be honored by gifts to the donor's local hospice, St. John's Catholic School in West Frankfort or St. Francis Xavier Catholic School in Fort Myers. Go Dawgs! Union Funeral Home in West Frankfort is in charge of arrangements. Published in The Southern Illinoisan on February 25, 2013
