He married the former Elizabeth Meyers on Nov. 19, 1955 and she preceded him in death on October 14, 2003. John was a retired coal miner from the Consolidated Coal Company Rend Lake Mine and a member of the U.M.W.A. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, a member of the Benton Elks, Boneyard Boccie Club, Benton American Legion and V.F.W., and West Frankfort Moose Lodge. He was a 33rd degree Mason, member of the Benton Masonic Lodge #64, Scottish Rite Bodies, and Order of the Sword of Bunker Hill. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and playing cards. Surviving relatives include a daughter, Pamela J. (Bill) Vandermeir, St. Petersburg, FL, a son, Jeffery A. (Beth) Roberts, Whittington, three grandchildren, Benjamin Vandermeir, Lakeland, FL, Courtney Vandermeir, St. Petersburg, FL, Ethan Roberts, Whittington, one great-grandchild, Colton Vandermeir, Lakeland, FL, two brothers and one sister, Paul (Elizabeth) Roberts, Jim (Carleen) Roberts, Wanda (Ted) Thompson, all of Sesser, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins and several special friends. Mr. Roberts was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a sister, Shirley Stubbins, and an infant brother, Kenneth Roberts. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p. m. Thursday, February 28, 2013 and 11:00 a. m. 1:00 p. m. Friday, March 1, 2013 at the Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory in Benton with Masonic Rites and Elks Rites performed at 7:30 p. m. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p. m. Friday at the funeral home with Pastor Eric Drake officiating. Military funeral honors will be performed by the Benton American Legion/V.F.W. and the Marion National Guard Honor Squad. His body will be cremated following the funeral services. Ms. Brown was born on July 22, 1941 in Christopher, IL, the daughter of Virgil Motsinger and Flossie (Key) Motsinger. Linda was the owner of the Our Place Restaurant in Sesser, taught Fiberglass Application at the SIU College of Technical Careers, and also worked at Huck’s in Christopher. She was a member of the Broken Hearted Church in Christopher and enjoyed spending time with her family. Surviving relatives include five children, Jeff Motsinger, Oak Hill, WV, Dawn (Don) Wilkins, Buckner, Mellonie Alexander, Buckner, Mark Frye, Sesser, Bryan Motsinger, Benton, twelve grandchildren, Jennifer, Jeffrey, Eric, Joseph, John, Joshua, Cody, Sadie, Preston, Brittni, Tiara, Sandra, sixteen great-grandchildren, four brothers, Carl Motsinger, Nashville, TN, Rick Motsinger, Benton, Jack Motsinger, Christopher, Mike Motsinger, Buckner, one sister, Myra McWhirter, Christopher, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.     3. WEST FRANKFORT -- Mary Virginia Stalions, 91, passed away at 1:46 a.m. Monday, Feb. 25, 2013, at her residence with her three daughters at her side. She was born July 18, 1921, in West Frankfort to Herbert and Rosetta (Wetzer) Doty. She married William Leroy Stalions on Sept. 1, 1940, and he preceded her in death June 13, 2005. Survivors include her daughters, Rosemary and (Daniel) Weakly of West Frankfort, Kathy and (Tom) Benedik of Marco Island, Fla., and Jane Osterhout of West Frankfort; grandchildren, Jimmy (Sue) Kinsman, Lora (Ed) Hammons, Amy (Randy) Blocker, Kimberly Odum, Elayne (Scott) Geba, Natalie Smith, David Osterhout and Stephanie Osterhout; 16 great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and a brother, John (Betty) Doty of Evansville, Ind. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William Leroy Stalions; and brothers, Max, Earl, Bob and Paul Doty. Mary graduated from Frankfort Community High School. She was a longtime member of United Methodist Church in West Frankfort. For many years, she was a member of Eastern Star. Most of Mary's work was in retail at Fashion Shop in West Frankfort. Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, March 1, in Parker-Reedy Funeral Home in West Frankfort with the Rev. Alan Summers officiating. Burial will be in Denning Cemetery in West Frankfort.     3. Sheldon, Thanks for the additional information & dates. I had all of these people in my file but not all of the dates & places. My information was from U.S. Census records, cemetery books, & an obit posted by JoAnn McGhee.
