per Grandma Deem's Obituaries 1897-1917 pg 97 OBITUAR(Y) MAR/ 5, 1908 Wm. C. MOORE was born January 24, 1831, and departed this life February 29, 1908, age 17 years, 1 month and five days. Deceased was married to Miss Esther INGRAM January 1st, 1845; to this union were born 12 children. Six of them have gone home to Glory where their father was called to go. He had given his heart to God in his old age and said he was ready to go home when God called him. He enjoyed religion the last days of his life at home with his family. He leaves a wife and six children and a host of friends to mourn his departure/ we feel our loss is his eternal gain. He heard the call for volunteers in 1861. He obeyed the call and joined the 40th Illinois, Co. A, serving as orderly sergeant, and was promoted to first lieutenant. He always looked up. He served four years, received an honorable discharge and returned home to his family. On the 29th day of February, 1908, he was discharged from the cares of this life and was laid to rest in Old Tenmile(sic) cemetery on March 1st, 1908, to await the resurrection of the just. Blessed are the dead that die in the Lord. Funeral services were conducted by Revs. K. W. INGRAM and T.B. HUNT. *** Wm. C. MOORE, a veteran of the civil war, serving in Co. A, 40th Ill. Herrin- Cecilia G. “Jerry” Maulding, 81, of Herrin, formerly of Murphysboro, passed away at 11:20 AM, Monday, March 25, 2013 at her home in Herrin. Jerry was born on November 17, 1931 in Williamson County to Lloyd and Anna (Jurgaitis) Penland. She worked many years as an accountant for Southern Illinois University in Carbondale before retirement in 1998. Before that, she worked several years as a census taker for the US Census Bureau, taught for a brief period at Vergennes and volunteered her time at the YMCA. She enjoyed working outside and tending to her yard as well as spending time with her family. She was an avid reader and had a keen sense of humor. She was former president of the SIU Civil Service Bargaining Organization. Survivors include- Daughter- Lou Ann Wade and husband Charley of Houston, TX Son- Earl Maulding of Hollywood, FL Daughter- Anita Thomason and husband Keith of Benton Son- Dale Maulding and Wife Lisa of Atlanta, GA Son- Gerald Maulding and wife Erin of Atlanta, GA Daughter- Wendy McCluskie and husband Devin of Herrin Thirteen Grandchildren: Justin Wade of Houston, TX Ayla Maulding of Hollywood, FL Henry Cardwell V and fiancée Kelsey Schlueter of St. Louis, MO Zac Thomason & Noah Thomason of Benton Nathan Maulding & Hayden Maulding of Atlanta, GA Eli Maulding, Libby Maulding & Quinn Maulding of Atlanta, GA Gavin McCluskie, Lauren McCluskie & Luke McCluskie of Herrin Great Grandchildren- Henry “Little Tommy” Cardwell VI of St. Louis and CJ Wade, Patrice Williams and Kailey Wade of Houston, TX Sister- Josephine Patterson of Raleigh, NC Several nieces and nephews She was preceded in death by her parents and brother- Lloyd Penland. The family considers it a privilege to have had Jerry as their mother. She will be greatly missed but she will always be a part of them. It was her wish to be cremated. A private memorial service will be held Friday, March 29, 2013. Memorial arrangements were made at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.
