The Browning Hill Cemetery in Browning Township Franklin County has been cleaned up. One of three trees has been cut up and moved that had fell in the cemetery. Two other trees are on the list to be cleaned up. Several of the Tombstones are down. Smaller ones will be put back up over the summer. There will be someone mowing the cemetery every two weeks to keep it in good shape. There are a few large stones that are down. One being Moses Buckner. Contact has been made with the Reynolds Monument company about getting the large stones back up and fixed on there bases. Three of the large Hammond stones are leaning and are in need of being fixed also. Photos of all the stones will be taken and sent to Sandy Bauer to be placed online. We will also be searching for other stones that are under the ground. Some of the small stones are broke into several parts. A lot of the stones have been moved around and are no where near where they are supposed to be. They will just be put back up in a row so that the can be preserved for the future. Thanks, Dale Houseworth
My THANKS to the ones cleaning up the Browning Hill Cemetery. Several years ago I triedto clean it up and my cousins mowed, but living so far away it was impossible to keep itclean. I understand the person living on the homestead had work-horses in thereand broke down a lot of the tombstones. There were several stones put over by the fence-row.I have a list of names where the tombstones should be placed if you need that. Again, Thank you.Eldora Browning Phillips > Date: Wed, 3 Apr 2013 12:21:07 -0400 > From: tristanmorgan@nwcable.net > To: ilfrankl@rootsweb.com > Subject: [ILFRANKL] Browning Hill Cemetery > > > > > The Browning Hill Cemetery in Browning Township Franklin County has been cleaned up. a.. Shirley M. Planutis died Feb. 8, 2013, at Swedish Covenant Hospital, Chicago. She was born Dec. 30, 1932, in Sesser, the daughter of Joe and Mary Grace (Mitchell) Planutis. She completed her schooling in Sesser. Upon graduating from Goode-Barren Township High School in 1950, she moved to Chicago, where she lived the rest of her life. Preceding her in death were her parents; her grandparents, William and Martha Mitchell; an aunt, Elizabeth Baker; cousins, Bill and Howard Baker; and her “second family,” Edward and Ann Paddison. Shirley’s greatest joy in life was her family and friends, traveling, books, and her beloved Chicago Cubs. Although she left Sesser many years ago, a part of her heart remained in Southern Illinois. She loved to get together with Sesser friends and remember stories of her young years there, and she especially looked forward to her trips there to visit her friends and family. Shirley will be remembered by all who knew her for her loyalty to her friends, her happy outlook on life, and her infectious laughter which brightened the day. Her longtime friends have lost a dear and trustworthy companion who was always there for them. She will be missed by those friends, especially her closest friend from childhood on, Marilea (Paddison) Koch. A graveside service for Shirley will be held at 10:30 a.m. on April 8 at Maple Hill Cemetery in Sesser, where she will be laid to rest in her family plot. Arrangements are under the care of Rankin Funeral Home in Salem, and Pastor Tracy Thomas will officiate. b.. Benton Evening News –4-3-2013 a.. a..
