    3. Former Benton Resident died in accident....... Orange City motorcyclist killed in Volusia crash; bicyclist injured in Flagler crash STAFF REPORT Published: Thursday, April 18, 2013 at 7:09 a.m. Last Modified: Thursday, April 18, 2013 at 4:08 p.m. An Orange City motorcyclist was killed in a Thursday morning crash near Barberville, 8 miles south of Pierson in Volusia County, the Florida Highway Patrol reported. Troopers also reported that in Palm Coast a bicyclist suffered serious injuries Wednesday when he crashed into a vehicle. At 6:33 a.m. Thursday, a vehicle crash west of Barberville on State Road 40 near the intersection of Seymour Road left Frank Fisher, 60, of Orange City dead, said Florida Highway Patrol's Sgt. Kim Montes. A box truck crashed into two motorcycles, Montes said. The driver of a second motorcycle, Mark Hart, 42, suffered minor injuries. Hart's passenger, Jeanne Blanchard, 52, of Orange City, also suffered minor injuries and was transported to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach, Montes said. According to Montes, the box truck was eastbound on State Road 40. Ahead of it, traffic had come to a standstill for a stopped school bus then started moving again. The box truck did not slow down enough for it to stop in time and the driver realized he was about to rear-end a semi trailer and veered into the westbound lane. The box truck crashed into the two motorcycles that were westbound on State Road 40, Montes said. Charges are pending against the driver of the box truck, Shawn Schmidt, 42, of Sparr, Montes said. In Flagler County, a 75-year-old Palm Coast man was airlifted to Halifax Health Medical Center after a Jeep hit him, pinning him beneath the vehicle, according to the Flagler County Sheriff's Office and a Florida Highway Patrol spokesmen.
