Bangs, age 87, of Johnston City, IL and formerly of Marion, went to be with the Lord and his loving wife, Wanda, peacefully at 2:05 p.m. on Monday, April 22, 2013, at his home with his daughter, Patricia holding his hand. He was born on Thursday, April 1, 1926, in Montello, WI the son of James and Bessie (Webb) Bangs. Eldon answered the call of the nation by serving in the United States Army during WW II and after his period of faithful service was honorably discharged. He was united in marriage to Wanda Mae Followell on Friday, May 30, 1958, in Christopher, IL and together they shared nearly thirty-two years of marriage until her death on Sunday, January 14, 1990. Early in his working career he worked for the Norge Corporation of Herrin, IL. He later began working for Marion Memorial Hospital of Marion, IL in the custodial and maintenance department for nearly thirty years until his retirement in 1982. He was of the Baptist faith. He also was a member of Addus HealthCare and enjoyed attending their many gatherings and events. In his spare time he enjoyed watching wrestling and was a fan of Chuck Norris and enjoyed watching any movie or show with him in it. He also enjoyed following St. Louis Cardinal Baseball. He is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Luther and Robin Bangs and Lawrence Bangs all of Marion, IL; three daughters, Linda Mays and fiancé, Jimmy Walker of Herrin, IL, Sandra Crain of Herrin, IL, Patricia Bangs of Johnston City, IL; twelve grandchildren, Rindi Reeves and husband, Robby and Tyson Bangs and wife, Jenny all of Marion, IL, Kassey McDonald of Tunnel Hill, IL; Wanda Bangs, Beth Mays, Adam Mays, Rachel Crain, Sarah Crain, William Crain and Star Crain all of Herrin, IL and Brianna Bangs and Shianna Richardson both of Johnston City, IL; four great grandchildren, Mia Bangs, Kamden Walker, Joshua Mays and Journey Bangs; special friends, Gayla Peavey of West Frankfort, IL and Scott White of Murphysboro, IL, other extended family and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife; sister, June Zarbrook and two brothers, Bud and George Zarbrook. Arrangements for Eldon A. Eugene Edward McConnell, age 90, a resident of Harrisburg, passed away at 6:30 AM Saturday April 20, 2013 at his residence. He was born on September 9, 1922 to Kingsley Edward and Ethel Mae (Renshaw) McConnell in the Lone Oak Community north of Harrisburg. On August 11, 1951, he married the love of his life, Virginia Ruth Melton, who preceded him in death on August 17, 2012. He is survived by three daughters, Carol (Steve) Wallace of Thompsonville, Sue (Stanley) Stokes of Eldorado, and Jeanie (Richard) Vinyard of Harrisburg. Four granddaughters, Stephanie Wallace, Amanda Stokes of Harrisburg, Elizabeth (Adam) Hughes of Eldorado, and Megan (Brian) Sinks of Evansville, IN and two grandsons, Johnathan Vinyard, and Aaron (Autumn) Vinyard both of Harrisburg. He has five great-grandchildren, Skyler, Gavin, &Raechel Vinyard of Stephenville, TX, Brooklyn &Nathan Hughes of Eldorado. One brother, Maurice (Betty) McConnell of Harrisburg, one sister, Betty Mazikas of Raleigh, and a sister-in-law, Lucy (Read) McConnell of Harrisburg, along with several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Edward Eugene “Eddie Gene”, two brothers, Raymond and Harold, Harold’s wife,Barbara Nell, and a brother-in-law, Bert Mazikas. He was a retired farmer who believed that the loudest sermon you could ever preach was not with words, but how you daily lived your life for the Lord. Mrs. Stinson was born on August 24, 1957 in DuQuoin, IL the daughter of Clarence Stinson and Virginia (Wyant) Stinson. Shirley worked as a CNA until she became disabled. She was a daughter, sister, aunt, mother, grandmother, and a special friend. She is survived by her son, Jeremy K. Stinson, Benton, IL, eight grandchildren, Maddison and Kaitlyn Worley, Colten Sloan, Isaiah Cosby, Noah, Constance, Kaiah, Brooklyn Stinson, Aunt (adopted sister) Bertrettia Stinson, several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family. Shirley lived with her niece and caretaker, Christina Armes. She really enjoyed the time she spent with her family and friends, Wanda and Robert Steingruby. Geneva was born July 6, to the late Albert McNeal and Mary Watts McNeal Kamber in Zeigler. She married Noble Ron Starnes and they lived together in Christopher, then in Weatherford, Texas, before relocating to Canton. He survives. Geneva was a stay-at-home mom and "Nani" as all of her grandkids and many others called her. She was passionate about making a difference in the lives of her family and friends. She always saw the "silver lining" in every cloud no matter how big or dark the cloud would be. She always saw the good in people and taught her family to do the same. She gave great motivation to anyone around her. Her interests included family, gardening, sewing, reading, "Dr. Mario," and her many outdoor nature walks. Geneva was a member of Zeigler First Baptist Church. Geneva was preceded in death by her two brothers, Gary and Kenny McNeal; and her sister, Janice McNeal. CHRISTOPHER - Raymond E. Short, 57, died Friday, April 19, 2013, at his home. He worked on the farm for Dr. Sean Bozorgzadeh. He was born Aug. 3, 1955, in Herrin, to Hosea and Flora (Bearden) Short. Raymond married Betty J. (Newberry) Short on Nov. 21, 1974. Survivors include children, Marsha Roberts of Sesser, Donny Short of Benton, Darren Short of Christopher and Jonathan Short of Christopher; grandchildren, John Matthew Baxter, Tyler Baxter, Lacey Mae Roberts, Braydon James Short and Kyan Michael Short; and brothers and sisters, Florine Bush of Chicago, Mary Brown of Christopher, David Short of Du Quoin and Buddy Short of Royalton.
