Virgil Lee Schirmer - 72, of Christopher, IL, passed away peacefully Friday April 26th, 2013, at Heartland Regional Medical Center of Progressive Supranuclear Palsey. Virgil was born June 23rd, 1940, at Herrin Hospital to George and Irene (Lewis) Schirmer of Mulkeytown, IL. Virgil was a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service and retired after 36 years of service. In his younger years, he was an active member of the Jaycees and Masonic Lodge in Christopher. Virgil was a member of the First Christian Church in Christopher and served in many capacities, most notably as a deacon and elder. Visitation will be Sunday April 28th, 2013 from 3 till 5p.m. at First Christian Church in Christopher. Funeral services begin at 5p.m. with Rev. Jerry Akin officiating. Charles Eugene Davis, 82, of Mt. Vernon, IL, died at 8:05 p. m. Thursday, April 25, 2013 at Franklin Hospital in Benton. Mr. Davis was born on December 23, 1930 in Mt. Vernon, IL the son of Harold Davis and Thelma (Dare) Davis. He married the former Evelyn Louise Williams and she survives. Charles was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was an avid race car fan, antique collector and loved to travel. He was a U.S. Marine Corp. veteran of the Korean War. Surviving relatives include his wife, Evelyn Davis, Mt. Ronald Gene Buchholz age 61 of Mt. Vernon passed away April 25, 2013 at St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon. Ron was born July 6, 1951, in Weatherford, Texas the son of Martin L. and Madeline (Kirkpatrick) Buchholz. He was a graduate of Illinois State in Bloomington where earned a degree in accounting. Ron worked as a Certified Public Accountant until failing health. He is survived by his brother, Allen Buchholz and special friend Carolyn of Springfield; and also two nieces, Vickie Cornish and Michelle and husband David Peruzzi. FREEMAN SPUR - Harold Eugene "Butch" McClure Jr., 70, of Freeman Spur, passed away at 9:05 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, 2013, in Herrin Hospital, with his family by his side. Earth's loss will be Heaven's gain. Harold was born in May 29, 1942, in Herrin, the son of Harold McClure Sr. and Anna Belle (Shirley) McClure. He married Vada Sue Wallace May 5, 1963, in Plumfield. She survives in Freeman Spur. From this loving union came two sons, John and Michael. As a young man, Butch worked at Humphrey's Farm in Freeman Spur. He later became a maintenance mechanic and machinist working at Allen Industries in Herrin and retired from Intertape Polymer in Carbondale in 2007. Mr. McClure was a member of Calvary Bible Church in West Frankfort. Butch had various interests and talents. He was an accomplished mechanic and carpenter and could make, fix or build just about anything. He enjoyed watching NASCAR races and had interests in classic cars and motorcycles. He was one of the last real woodsmen. He built muzzle loaders and participated in Living History events. He was a knowledgeable fisherman, trapper and hunter. He loved teaching people about his interests, especially when preaching the Gospel. He was a minister of the Gospel for the past 20 years. He enjoyed spreading the love of Jesus in several different local churches. Some of this favorite experiences were with the lake ministry he shared with his wife and friends, Don and Janice Fisher, at Little Grassy Lake and a missionary trip to Wyoming with friends, Dale and Sue Ann Smith. He simply loved sharing his faith in God with everyone. Marion had served in the U.S. Army as a scout on the frontlines in France and Germany during World War II. He returned home to work on the family farm. He was born Nov. 1, 1923, in Mulkeytown, the son of William and Frances (Davis) Carter. He married Bertha Tilley on June 7, 1991, and she preceded him in death in 2009. Register-News, Mt Vernon IL, 21 June 1952 FRED E. DURKEE HURT IN ACCIDENT Fred E. DURKEE, 64, of 120 north 16th street, was injured at 4:40 p.m. in an unusual accident on south Tenth street. Mr. DURKEE was driving a railway Express truck. According to a report of the accident at police headquarters, the truck slid when he applied the brakes at Tenth and Lamar, and he was thrown from the truck. The report said the brakes apparently were damp because of the rainstorm. After the driver was thrown out the truck struck a parked car owned by Bob KREBS.
