Vernon. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22 in the Brayfield-Gilbert Funeral Home, Sesser, with Brother Larry Cook officiating. Burial will be in Horse Prairie Cemetery. Friends may call after 6 p.m. Tuesday to the funeral home. Mr. Loucks was born on Nov. 3, 1934, in Jefferson County, the son of Emro and Clara (Mobray) Loucks. He married Nellie (Stotz) Loucks and she survives. He was a member of the Bear Point Baptist Church in Sesser. Charlie KIRKPATRICK is my cousin, s/o my Uncle Roscoe & Aunt Lula (Johnston) KIRKPATRICK. I visited Charlie's sister, Reba, shortly before she passed away. She suffered from T.B. Reba's daughter, Lee, is married to Keith WARD. Uncle Roscoe & Aunt Lula lived just across the hard road & a little east of us. Aunt Lula was always at the Atchison farm helping my Grandma Maggie with the chores. Uncle Roscoe was twp. road commissioner for a time & that job seemed to pass from one family member to another. His wife, Alice, preceded him in death in August 1941. Survivors include a sister, Lizzie RAMSEY of Pittsburg, and several nieces and nephews. DR. CARL PLANINC Carterville-Dr. Carl Planinc 94, of Carterville, died at 1:05 P.M. on Friday, March 7, 2014 in Century Assisted Living in Carbondale. He passed away peacefully with his wife of 72 years, Virginia, holding his hand and his grandson and granddaughter-in-law at his side. Carl was born on October 29, 1919 in Johnston City to John Planinc and Barbara (Golightly) Planinc. He married Virginia May Cooksey on April 26, 1941. She survives. He is also survived by a sister, Violet Mayer of West Frankfort; grandson, Peyton Blewett and wife Kelly of Carbondale; great grandson, Brandon Blewett of Carbondale; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Carolyn Sue Blewett. He was also preceded by brothers, Johnny, Billy, and Frank (Runt) Planinc and sisters, Esther Coulson and Mary Rose Brymer. Carl grew up during the Great Depression and graduated with honors from JCHS in 1937. He joined the Civilian Conservation Corps after high school and helped build Giant City State Park. He joined the US Army during WWII and was a tank driver. Upon discharge from the services, he attended Southern Illinois University on the GI Bill and received his BS in 1950 and MS in 1951. Carl was a longtime educator and administrator in southern Illinois. He taught 7th grade English for three years in Cobden, before moving back to his hometown. He served as a teacher, principal, and superintendent at Johnston City High School over the next several years. He left JCHS to accept the position of Education Television Coordinator at SIU and was instrumental in developing SIU-TV Channel 8. When he took an unpaid leave of absence to complete his Doctorate at Indiana University, Channel 8 had over 35,000 students using the telecasts as part of their daily instruction. When Carl returned to SIU, he was assigned to the College of Education to teach graduate courses. After 13 years at SIU, he accepted the position of Associate Dean of Continuing Education at John A. Logan College. When he retired 8 years later, the program had over 200 classes in all subjects at 54 locations in the district. Carl was also a community volunteer. He served as Chairman of the Big Muddy Community Action Agency and contracted with Man-Tra-Con to assist with the educational opportunities of the disadvantaged. He also served as March of Dimes Chairman, Johnston City Rotary Club President, Carterville Precinct Committeeman, Southern at 150 Committeeman, and Senior Vice Commander of the local Chapter for Disabled American Veterans. Carl was selected as a Leader Among Us by the Southern Illinoisan Newspaper in 2009. Carl always had a love of aviation, but was unable to become a pilot due to color blindness. Yet he found a way to contribute and fulfill this passion by serving as a board member for over 40 years for the Williamson County Airport Authority, serving as a Chairman or Vice Chairman for most of that period. He was elected to the Illinois Aviation Hall of Fame in 2012 Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday March 11, 2014, at Murman & Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City with Pastor Richard Reed officiating. Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery of Johnston City. Carolyn's parents, Adam and Bernice (aka Bennie) Kiselewski were rural neighbors to my Loman grandparents. The Kiselewskis lived on the next farm south of my grandparents in Elk Prairie Township, Jefferson County, IL. Bothfarms are now under Rend Lake. Adam and Bennie later divorced and Adam remarried Julie Marie Edwards. Marie is part of my Isaacs family. Her parents are Leroy and Isabelle (Isaacs) Edwards. Monday while mowing the lawn at his home. Franklin County Coroner Eugene Dorris, who conducted an inquiry, said Mr. Zumberac died of a coronary thrombosis. Born in Yugoslavia, Oct. 18, 1887, the son of Matt and Kale Zumberac, he came to the United States in 1907. A retired coal miner, he last worked at Old Ben 15. He leaves his wife, Germaine; son, Louis Don of Arlington, Va.; step - daughter, Mrs. Ribella Palada of Wisconsin; stepson, Dino Cassanelli of Sesser and four grandchildren. He was a truck driver for Hugh Major Trucking of South Roxana and a World War II veteran. Born in Sesser, he was a son of the late Roscoe and Lula (Johnston) Kirkpatrick. On Aug. 24, 1938, he married the former Peggy Hagen in St. Louis. She survives.
