This is the son of Theodore Brayfield, and the grandson of Dr. Benjamin F. Brayfield and Irena Cockrum. The Hartford Courant, Hartford, CT, July 9, 1996 Bill B. Brayfield , of Windsor, CT, died of cancer at St. Francis Hospital, on July 7, 1996. He was born on Aug. 27, 1930, in Bisbee, AZ. He received his Bachelor's and Master's degree from Stanford University, CA, and did graduate work at Columbia University after a two-year stint in the U.S. Army. He came to teach in the History department at the University of Hartford in 1961, and retired as Chairman of the department in 1995. During his tenure at the University of Hartford, he served as Chairman of the Faculty Senate Committee, and assisted in founding the CT History Day program for the public school students. His many professional associations include the American Association of University Professors, the American Historical Association, New England Historical Association, the New England Association of Slavic Studies, the CT Humanities Council, and the CT Academy of Arts and Sciences. Mr. Brayfield attended Quaker meeting in West Hartford. He is survived by Clotean, his wife of 43 years; and daughters, Liesse Medor of Hamden and Maris Kittell of Jericho, VT, and Carry Brayfield of Windsor. He had nine grandchildren including Belle Brayfield , who he raised since her mother, Beth's death in 1982. He will be mourned privately by his family and friends. There will be a memorial service for him at the University of Hartford in September, 1996. James Maloy Willis, 91, of Kingston, Tenn., formerly of Mt. Vernon, died 10:35 p.m. Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at Roane Medical Center in Harriman, Tenn.He was born Tuesday, April 25, 1922, in Mt. He later married Etta Louise Colburn on Aug. 19, 2000, in Kingston, Tenn.James served our country in the Navy Reserve. Vernon, and the Scottish Rite of Knoxville, Tenn. He was also a member of the Masonic Union Lodge 38 and the Eastern Star Kingston Chapter 405. Ruby I. Brock, 87, of Du Quoin, passed away at 7:05 P.M., Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at the home of her daughter in Mulkeytown, IL. Ruby had worked for many years at Country Set. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Du Quoin. Ruby was a good Christian woman and a very special person. She was born October 2, 1926 at Du Quoin, IL, the daughter of Raymond and Nellie (Stanley) Satterfield. She married Robert L. Brock on June 5, 1945 at New Orleans, LA and he preceded her in death on July 31, 1993. She is survived by two sons - Byron D. Brock and wife Joann and Gary L. Brock and wife Barbara, all of Du Quoin, one daughter - Linda L. Greenwood and husband Jim of Mulkeytown, IL, one brother - Walter Satterfield of Merced, CA, two sisters - Louise Galloway and Juanita Porter, both of Du Quoin, eight grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers - Bob Satterfield and Gene Satterfield, and one grandson - John Brock. Larry "Jake" Wayne Lyday Sr., age 74, of Centralia Lake passed away 12:03 a.m. Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in Saint Louis, Missouri Larry was born February 10, 1940 in Buckner, Illinois the son of Clarence and Dollie (Haggard) Lyday. He married Sheryl "Toni" (Keast) on May 17, 1980 and she survives in Centralia. He is also survived by his six children, Larry Lyday Jr. and wife Karen of Mt. Vernon, Debbie Harper and husband Michael of Denver, CO, Michael Lyday of Mt. Vernon, Robert Lyday of Dix, Rich Lyday of Mt. Vernon and Chris Lyday and wife Meghan of Saint Louis; three stepsons; and also 10 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. Larry was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Kenneth and Carl Lyday; three sisters, Ruby Mae Thurmond, Shirley Stafford and Blanch Bernice Sanford. Larry was a Master Mason and a member of the Marion Lodge 130. He was also a member of the AAONMS "AINAD Shrine East Saint Louis, IL". He was a certified machinist troubleshooter working for several area printing presses. He loved sports including coaching Little League Baseball, and was a diehard Chicago Bears and St. Louis Cardinals fan. Larry enjoyed spending time on Centralia Lake with family and friends. Mr. Davis was born on August 3, 1924 in Benton, IL the son of Henry Davis and Pearl Bookhout. He married the former La Gathia I. Hammers on April 24, 1948. Glenn served in the United States Army. He retired from Sealed Air Manufacturing, Salem, IL, in 1985 as a machinist. He was a member of the West City Church of God. Glenn was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He enjoyed fishing, working on his lawn and garden. Surviving relatives include his wife, La Gathia I. Ruby Nell Gann McManus passed away March 13, 2014 in Atlanta, GA. Voted Most Popular Girl in her West Frankfort, Ill graduating class of 1941, Ruby lived up to her title, being the most popular girl and making lifelong friends wherever she landed. Ruby was born December 2, 1923 in West Frankfort, Illinois to Opal and J. Gus Gann, their third and last child. She grew up on Lindell St. with her sister Anna Lois and brother William Gann. Her grandfather Joseph Brown founded the West Frankfort Methodist Church. Ruby attended McMurray College on a music scholarship with her excellent rendition of DeBussey's Clair De Lune. She then transferred to the University of Illinois, graduating in 1946 with a Bachelor's degree in Education Science. She connected with fellow West Frankforter Eugene F. McManus, who helped her get through an Accounting class. They began dating and on October 15, 1945 they eloped. After graduation they moved to Washington D.C. before moving to Detroit in the early 1950's. Ruby and Gene had their three children in Detroit – Gregory Dean, Jeffrey Gann and Andrea Gene, all of who survive her. In 1958 Gene got a job in San Francisco and off they moved, settling in the small town of Woodside. In 1966 Gene got a new job in Atlanta and off they were again, settling in Marietta. In 1972 Gene got a new job and off they moved to Pawleys Island, South Carolina, where they retired. Ruby spent many wonderful years in the house they built on Litchfield Plantation. Gene, her husband of 52 year as well as her brother William Gann predeceased Ruby. Ruby's survivors include her son Gregory Dean and his wife Kathy and their three sons, Greg Dean Jr., Alexander Ayer, and Karl, and her great grandchildren Greg Dean III and Chloe. Also surviving are her son Jeffrey Gann and his wife Joy and their daughter Kylie Ann, and Ruby's daughter Andrea Gene, husband John Brinkworth and their daughter Mackenzie Gene, her sister Anna Lois Aiken of Benton, and Anna Lois's children, William Gordon Huff of Benton, Jane Ann Aiken and Jaime Aiken. Ruby's cousin Shirley Ramsey and husband Blaine, as well as her companion William Gamble also survive her. Ruby was the life of the party, and everyone will miss her.
