Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, April 18, 2014, at Felty Funeral Home in Carrier Mills. Visitation will be held 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in the Somers Church Cemetery and the Rev. Clint Cullum will officiate. Memorials may be made to the family, in lieu of flowers, envelopes will be available at funeral home. He was born on March 6, 1952, in Saline County, to the late Clark and Marie (Keasler) Horton. He married the former Elaine Headrick on July 31, 1970, and she survives. He was a logger and mechanic and a member of the Somers Community Church. His greatest joy were his family and his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife: Elaine Horton of Thompsonville; two sons: Ronnie (Vicki) Horton and Matt (Debbye) Horton, both of Thompsonville; daughter: Heather (Brad) Dorris of Harrisburg; seven grandchildren: Dakota Horton, Harlie Horton, Matthew Horton, Dalton Horton, Brianna Dorris, Wyatt Dorris and Colton Dorris; two brothers: Cletus (Della) Horton of Harrisburg and Allen (Sandy) Horton of Harco; sister: Barb (John) Fugate of Carrier Mills; and sister-in-law: Emma Horton of Carrier Mills. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother: Bobby Dale Horton; and two infant siblings.

Billy was born April 26, 1932, in Johnston City, to John George and Mary Helen (Earnheart) Cobb. He married Rosa Joan Lemons on June 12, 1957, in Marion. Together they have shared nearly 57 years of marriage. Billy was retired, having been a coal miner at Freeman 4 Coal Mine for many years. He was previously employed by Arab Pest Control. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served his country honorably during the Korean War. He was of Baptist faith and was a member of UMWA. Billy enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping before his health began to fail. He especially loved to spend time with his family and friends at Rend Lake and Lake Barkley on family camping trips. Survivors include his wife, Rosa of Johnston City; son and daughter-in-law, David Lee (Candy Lynn) Lemons of Christopher; six grandchildren, Stacie Vercellino of Newburgh, Ind., Heather (Mike) Galloway of Sesser, Josh Lemons of Du Quoin, T.J. Even though they did not spend much time with us, they touched our hearts in a way that can never be replaced. Vernon Register-News, Wednesday, July 13, 1966 Beatrice Martin Dies At Age 66; Rites Thursday Mrs. Beatrice Robison Martin, of 915 Lamar Avenue, died at 2:00 p. m. yesterday at Good Samaritan Hospital. She was 66 years and five days of age. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:00 p . m. at Myers Chapel The Rev. Howard Flota will officiate and burial will be in Kirk cemetery. The body will lie in state at Myers Chapel, where friends may call after 5:00 p. m. today. Mrs. Martin was born July 7, 1900 at Bonnie, the daughter of Charles E. and Nellie (Powers) Allen. She was first married, in 1918, to William Ivan Robinson, who died May 11, 1962. On July 5 this year she was married to William Martin, who survives. Besides her husband she is survived by her mother, Mrs. Nelle Allen of Bonnie; six daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Pemberton, Mrs. Vivian Flota, Mrs. Mildred Trout and Mrs. Maxine Scarber, all of Mt Vernon, Mrs. Thelma Jean Edgeman of Dugway, Utah, and Mrs. Garolyn Naile of Bertrand, Mo; three sisters, Mrs. Pearl Sursa of Decatur, Mrs. Margaret Trout of Mt.     2. SESSER -- Jeffrey Thomas Boyd passed away Thursday, April 10, 2014, at his home due to his ongoing battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig 's disease). Jeff was born Dec. 20, 1950, in Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin. He was the youngest of three boys born to Loren Woodrow and Vera Galloway Boyd. Both of his parents preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Christine (Dolce) Boyd, and their children, Cassie Hartwell and William, all of Sesser; and brothers, Loren "Beau" Boyd and wife, Cheryl, of Benton and Steve Boyd and wife, Carolyn, of Sesser. Jeff graduated from Sesser Community Unit schools in 1967. He continued on to the University of Missouri at Rolla. Jeff was raised on the farm, operating heavy machinery, and continued to do so in his life-long career as a civil engineer, until his death. Jeff operated as an owner of Boyd Brother's Inc. of Sesser and J.T. Boyd Construction Company of Sesser. Jeff was an avid bass fisherman, quail hunter and Harley rider. He also enjoyed gardening outside with his wife and kids. Nothing made him happier than to spend time outside with the sun on his face and the wind in his hair. Jeff lived the fisherman's dream and lived most of his adult life at his boyhood fishing spot. He was a member of B.A.S.S. Master's, the Masonic Lodge in Sesser, The Scottish Rite, and the Anid Temple of Shriners. Jeff had been a member of 4-H as a youth and participated in 4-H with both of his children. He had served as a member of Franklin County Hospital Board and Sesser School Board. Jeff also was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 318 in Marion. Services to remember Jeff's life will be Tuesday, April 15, in United Methodist Church in Sesser.     2. SESSER -- Vera L. Romani, 75, passed away Saturday, April 12, 2014, after a brief illness. She was born Aug. 23, 1938, to Ole and Vera Olson in Oak Harbor, Wash. She married Humbert "Humpy" Romani on Oct. 30, 1953, and he preceded her in death March 14, 2001. Vera was a homemaker. She also helped her husband in several businesses they owned. Survivors include her children, Victor M. Romani and wife, Trisha, of Sesser, Annette Easter and husband, CJ, of West City, Darren M. Romani and wife, Kimberly, of West City and Teresa Hammond and husband, Gale, of Hendersonville, Tenn.; sister, Dorathy "Tootsie" Gilbert and husband, Eugene "Dud," of Oak Harbor; brother, Hans "Swede" Olson and wife, Marlene, of Oak Harbor; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. She will be sadly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Robert Olson; sister, Nanny Lewin; five children, Tina Romani, Leslie Romani, Diana Romani, Lisa Sisney and Christopher Romani; one grandchild; and three great-grandchildren. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 16, in Brayfield/Gilbert Funeral Home in Sesser with Father Peter Balili officiating. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in Sesser.     2. Jerome "J.D." Carl Eubanks, age 73, of Sesser, passed away 2:31 p.m. Saturday, April 12, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Regional Health Center in Mt. Vernon. Jerome was born July 10, 1940 in Valier Illinois a son of Orval and Lillian L. (Quillman) Eubanks. Jerome had worked for the water department in Sesser until failing health. He served his country in the United States Army. He was an avid coon hunter and fisherman. Funeral services for Jerome "J.D." Carl Eubanks will be held 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at Newell Funeral Home in Waltonville with Bruce Conner officiating. Burial will be held at a later date in the Hammond Cemetery in rural Sesser. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5 p.m. until service time. Mr. Eubanks is survived by his sister, Glenda Conner and husband Tom of Sesser; brother, Terry Eubanks and wife Patti of Zeigler; friend, Sandy Robinson of Centralia; and also several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a nephew Dennis Eubanks. For those who wish memorials may be made to the Sesser Fire Department First Responders and will be accepted at the Newell Funeral Home.
