    2.   Martha Marilyn Teel, 89, passed away Wednesday December 31, 2014 at the DuQuoin Nursing and Rehab Center. She was born on Christmas Day in 1925 and lived in Franklin County area most of her life. She is survived by four children Sherry (Larry) Bullock of DuQuoin, Forrest (Ann) Teel of Christopher, Winona Teel of Johnston City, and Taylor (Kim) Teel of Christopher. Seven Grandchildren Linaya Germann of Carbondale, Trevor Bullock of Herrin, Courtney Overturf of Royalton, Harrison Teel of Benton, and Mackenzie Teel, Shawn Teel, and Brianna Teel all of Christopher. She is survived by eight Great Grandchildren and one sister-in-law Edna Teel of Washington, IL. Mrs. Teel was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 70 years Marvin Teel just six months ago. She was also preceded in death by her parents Opal and Ethel Flowers, one brother Norman Flowers, and two sisters Ruth Stritzel and Mary Boyd. Mrs. Teel was a faithful member of the Greenwood United Methodist Church of rural Mulkeytown. Although she worked outside the home at various times, her greatest passion was being a homemaker, wife and mother. One of her greatest interests was that of self-expression through painting and other forms of art. She had a special talent of making a painting or drawing come alive on paper and canvas. Her paintings are appreciated by many and treasured by her family. Funeral services will be on Saturday January 3, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. at the Greenwood United Methodist Church with pastor Dick Sullins officiating. Interment will be at the Ward Cemetery in Mulkeytown. Visitation will be on Saturday January 3, 2015 from Noon until the time of the service at 2:00 P.M. Memorials can be to the Greenwood/Ward Cemetery or to the Greenwood United Methodist Church and will be accepted at the church.

Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Sunday January 4, 2015, at the Murman & Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City with Pastor Rodney Joplin and Pastor Andy Lee officiating. Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery in Johnston City. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon to 2:00 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to charity of donor’s choice or to the church of donor’s choice. Robert was born on December 6, 1920 in Johnston City the son of Seamer and Eula (Chapman) Hoffard. He married Leora Geneva (Thompson) on August 16, 1940 in Jackson, MO. She preceded him in death on April 18, 2006. He retired from I.D.O.T. as a highway maintainer in 1986. He enjoyed spending time at his farm and eating at Andresen’s with his nephew Bill. He was a faithful member of the Church of God of Benton.     2.    George B. Kee, 71, of Johnston City went home to be with his Heavenly Father and God on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at the Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO. George was born on August 3, 1943 in West Frankfort the son of Orville Eugene and Imogene (Porter) Kee. He married Judy (Talluto) on August 22, 1964 in Marion. She survives. He was a professional musician and played in various bands in Southern Illinois. He loved to share his gift of music with people. He was a co-founder of Special Mine Services of West Frankfort. He was a member of the Buccaneers Club of Johnston City and the Oleo Quail Club of Pittsburg. He was a gifted athlete in high school sports at Johnston City.     3. The Christopher Progress, Thursday, October 11, 1951 Fourteen-Year-Old Leona Wolze Dies Leona Frances Wolze, 14, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Wolze of Mulkeytown route, south of Christouher, (sic.) died at 4:30 on Monday afternoon at the home of her parents following an illness of several years. The funeral was held on Wednesday afternoon in the Union Funeral Home with Fergus McElrea reading the rites. Burial was in the Mulkeytown cemetery with the Union Funeral Home in charge. In addition to her parents the child is survived by 2 brothers, Herman Wolze of Chicago, John Gene Wolze of the home and Mrs. Harriet Geneva Carso of Royalton.

Fitzgerrell Dies Wednesday Night Mrs. Della Fitzgerrell, 79, member of a pioneer Franklin county family, died suddenly Wednesday night, Mrs. Fitzgerell was the widow of James H. Fitzgerell, a prominent Sesser area farmer. She leaves three children: State represntative Wayne Fizgerrell, Sesser; William Fizgerrell, also of Sesser, and Mrs. Herbert Junkins, Florida. In addition she is survived by her twin sister, Mrs. Delia McAfoos, Whittington and three brothers: L. H. and Ben Winemiller, Whittington and Nelson Winemiller, Benton. Funeral arrangements are incomplete. The Mt. Vernon Register-News, Friday, July 26, 1957, Mrs. Fitzgerrell Rites Saturday Funeral services for Mrs. Della Fitzgerrell, 79, will be held at 2:00 p. m. Saturday at the Brayfield Funeral Home in Sesser. Burial will be in Maple Hill cemetery. The body will lie in state at the Sesser funeral home, where friends may call. Mrs. Fitzgerrell, mother of State Rep. Wayne Fitzgerrell of Sesser, died early Thursday (sic).

October 5, 1951, Benton, Franklin County, Illinois, is the son of Harry Willis Day and Gertrude Thomason He married Myrtle Wilodean Loman The Christopher Progress, Thursday, October 11, 1951 COUNTY SHERIFF DIES FRIDAY Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at Sesser for Sheriff Willard Day, 43, who died at his living quarters at the county jail in Benton last Friday night from a heart attack. Day who was elected to the Office just a year ago as a dark horse had proven an exemplary sheriff, winning the praise of the entire county as well as the state police. His death came as a shock as no one knew of his illness. According to his family he left the office at 4 o’clock Friday afternoon complaining of a pain in his shoulder. He went to bed without dinner that evening and at 10 o’clock seemed ill enough to warrant a physician. Day was dead when the doctor arrived. Widely known in the county because of his interest in coon dog hunting Day had been chief of police at Sesser for 4 years before being elected as sheriff. In tribute to Mr. Day all business places in the county were closed Monday afternoon, Christopher stores closing from two to three o’clock. Day is survived by his widow; his mother, Mrs. Willis Day; by one brother, Wilford Day and by four sisters, Coroner Clayton became sheriff automatically on Mr. Day’s death. The county board will now appoint a sheriff to serve until the 1952 election. The Edwardsville Intelligencer, Saturday, October 6, 1951 Franklin County Sheriff Dies Benton, Ill., (IP)—A heart attack took the life of Sheriff Willard Day of Franklin county at his home about 10:15 Friday night. He was 43. Day, serving his first term as sheriff to which he was elected in November, 1949, formerly was chief of police at Sesser, Ill., for five years. Friends said he complained of "not feeling well" and went home from work about 4:30 p.m. Friday. Mrs. Day who was reported under doctor's treatment for shock, said she heard him cry out from the bedroom about 10 p.m. She called for help, but a fire department rescue squad was unable to revive him. Day's duties as sheriff will be taken over by Coroner David J. Clayton until a successor is named.

(Wise) Yates, 87, passed away at 11:25 p.m. on Sunday, December 28, 2014 at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale surrounded by her family.     Sue was born March 18, 1927, to Clyde and Eva Alma (Addison) Wise in Benton.     She married Frank Junior Yates on September 8, 1947 in Carbondale.  He survives and is of Carbondale.     Other survivors include her sons, Robert Dale (Jane) Yates of Waterloo, and Jeffrey Frank (Lynette) Yates of Carbondale; four grandchildren, Jeffrey Scott Yates of Stillwater, MN, Jamie Lynn (Chris) Robison of Carbondale, Sarah Lynette and Julia Anne Yates both of Waterloo; and three great grandchildren, Morgan Rae Yates, Arwen Eva and Christopher James "C.J." Robison; special nephew and niece, David Wiggs and Laurie (Wiggs) Lavy.     She is preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Joy (Wise) Wiggs.     Sue was a member of Walnut Street Baptist Church of Carbondale, and was employed as a Secretary for the Metropolitan Insurance Company and then at Winkler School until her retirement in 1986.  She was an avid Saluki and Cardinals fan, and volunteered at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale in the Auxiliary department for many years.     Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 2, 2015, at Meredith Funeral Home of Carbondale, with Pastor Wes Henson officiating.  Burial will be at Pleasant Grove Memorial Park in Murphysboro.  Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home on Friday.     Memorial donations are the preferred form of remembrance and may be made to the Walnut Street Baptist Church Building Fund and will be accepted at the funeral home.

    2.   John Willis Yancey, 73, of Energy, passed away 9:55 p.m. Friday, December 26, 2014 at the Herrin Hospital in Herrin. John was born June 22, 1941 in Herrin, IL to Ralph and Beatrice (Proffitt) Yancey. He married Jolene M. (Mueth) on September 6, 1962. Together, they shared 52 years of marriage. He was a devoted husband, father and pa pa. He loved fishing, hunting, camping, loved the outdoors, sitting in the front yard of his home waving at all passerby’s and serving as the “official” neighbor watchman . He also loved spending time with his family and especially spending time with his “Little Sweetie”. He never met a stranger and could talk to anyone about almost everything. He was always with his family, working in the yard or on a project in the garage. He got to see the ocean in his later years and couldn’t wait to go back. He was a hard worker, having worked construction at the O’Hare Airport in Chicago, Norge Industries in Herrin, Proctor and Gambel in Cape Girardeau, MO, retired as a laborer out of Local # 773, worked in the coal mines as a certified electrician and repairmen at Old Ben # 21 and retired from Zeigler # 11 Coal Mine. He was a proud UMWA member and a member of the Blue Heron Boat and Yacht Club. He always had a story to tell and loved giving his family advice and words of wisdom about life. His happiness and fulfillment was met by work and being around his kids and grandkids. His spirit and humor will always be in our hearts. He is survived by his loving wife, Jolene M. Services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2014 at Meredith-Waddell Funeral Home in Herrin with Monsignor Ken Schaefer officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday, Dec. 29, 2014 at the funeral home. Interment will be in San Carlo Cemetery in Herrin. The family would prefer that memorial donations be made to Our Lady of Mt.     2.   Dave Johns, 60, of West Frankfort, Illinois passed away Sunday, December 28, 2014 at 12 p.m. at his residence.   He was born January 23, 1954 in Lansing, Michigan to Robert and Martha (Pulley) Johns. Dave was a loving husband, father, and grandfather; attended First Christian Church of West Frankfort.  He was an avid golfer. He loved woodworking, fishing, camping, grilling and cooking. Dave was preceded in death by his father, Robert Johns.  Survivors include his wife, Cynthia Johns of West Frankfort; mother, Martha Johns of Orient; daughter, Lori (John) Walley of West Frankfort; brother, Gary (Wanda) Johns of Paulton, Illinois; sister, Diane (David) Newcome of Iuka, Mississippi; grandchildren: Keaton, Connor, and Cylus; good friend, Rick Murphy; several nieces and nephews; and dog, Dex. A memorial service will be held at Friday, January 2, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Union Funeral Home in West Frankfort, Illinois with Pastor Jason Ishmael officiating. Visitation will be Friday, January 2, 2014 at the funeral home from 12 to 2 p.m. prior to the service.

    2.   BARRY DAVID DAVISON Johnston City-Barry David Davison, 54, passed away on Friday December 26, 2014, at 7:00 P.M. at his family home. Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday January 5, 2015, at the St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Johnston City with Fr. Richard Mohr officiating. Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery of Johnston City. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Sunday at the Murman & Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City. Barry was born on October 22, 1960 in Benton the son of Leon and Helen (Sortal) Davison. He managed and bartended the Pub in Johnston City. Then he was a former event coordinator at Arizona State University. He was an avid sports enthusiast and very knowledgeable especially on college sports. He was a very good athlete in his younger years. He coached football at the Johnston City High School and basketball for the Johnston City Jr. High. He attended St. Paul’s Catholic School in Johnston City. Then he graduated from J.C.H.S in 1978 and then from SIUC with a degree in Sociology in 1990. He is survived by a special friend, Jena Thompson of Johnston City; by one sister, Diane Puckett and husband Bill of Harrisburg; one brother, Gary Davison and wife Karen of Marion; three nephews, Jason Puckett and Andi of Harrisburg, Zachary Puckett of San Jose, CA, and Christopher Davison and Natalie of Marion; one niece, Andrea Wade and husband Shane of Marion; three great nephews, Will Puckett, Conner Wade and Hudson Wade; a great niece, Lyla Puckett; an uncle, Conrad Holt of Scottsdale, AZ; and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; several uncles; aunts; and cousins. He will be sadly missed by family and friends.

    2.   Terry Patchett, 78, died Sunday, Dec. 28, 2014, at home. Services will be at 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 2, in Gilbert Funeral Home in Christopher. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ronald McDonald House Charities or Barnes Children’s Hospital and will be accepted at the funeral home Mr. Patchett was a coal miner at Zeigler 26 for 18 years. He was born May 22, 1936, in Valier to Edmund and Lindy (Slaverio) Patchett. He was married to Mary Ennis (Snider) Patchett, and she preceded him in death May 6, 2011. Survivors include his children, Matt and Monaka Patchett of Mulkeytown, Mike and Mary Ann Patchett of Christopher and Beth Patchett and Micah Lewis of Eddyville; grandchildren, Andi Jo and Charlie Isom, David and Jin Patchett, Tiffanie and Dustin Young, Samantha and Levi Webb, Morgan Patchett and Gracie Fralick; great-grandchildren, Stephanie and Brandon Isom and Kase Michael Patchett; brother and sister-in-law, Marty and Saundry Patchett of Sesser; and special friends, Rudy and Jeanetta Roule. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
