Charles Benoit and Marie Morin who were married in St Luc, Quebec July 6, 1818 had a fairly large family of about 12 children. About 1848 this family left for Illinois, and appears to have lived sometime in Iroquois County. The following are the children who may have immigrated to Illinois with the parents. 1) Marie Benoit, and her husband Cyrille Brouillet. 2) Eugenie Benoit, born 1822, married to Louis Hamel. 3) Josephte Benoit, born 1832, married to Jacques Menard. 4) Domitilde Benoit, born 1834, possibly Mathilda Benoit who married Charles Balthazar (Martin & Sophie Hébert). Oral tradition is that she was 14 when the family left Quebec, hence they reached Illinois in 1848. Mathilda became a widow 1886 in Wisconsin, remarried Joseph St Louis in1891 also Wisconsin. She is buried there. 5) Marie Dorothée Benoit, born1836, (nothing known ) 6) Joseph Moyse Benoit, born 1837, married Henriette Dion in 1861. This is the couple who a lot of folks are searching for the link back to Quebec. They had 3 children in LErable IL. 7) Flavie Benoit, born1839, married to a Dion as well, nothing else known. 8) Adelaide Benoit, born 1842, likely changed her name to Ida in Illinois.
