Hello list, I am researching the Walker LEWIS family via my HANKS line, and would love to find someone else who is researching this particular Lewis line. I know that Walker LEWIS was born in 1857 and died in 1931 in South Dakota. He married Rose HANKS (b. 1858, died 1932 in SD) March 1, 1877 in Paxton, IL. Walker and Rose LEWIS homesteaded here in SD in the 1880's. At some point in time, Rose's nephew, Walter BOURNE (may have been spelled BOUREN) came to South Dakota to live with them. Walter was born in 1876 in Illinois to Alfred and Josephine HANKS BOURNE. I know Alfred was here as early as 1906, because he was married in SD in 1906. Family word of mouth has it that Alfred came to SD as a child and lived with his Walker and Rose Lewis. Nobody seems to know/remember why he came here. Nobody remembers his mother, Josephine, ever being in SD. I would love to connect with anyone who is researching the LEWIS, HANKS, or BOUREN, (BOURNE) line. I have a lot of information about their descendants, and am always willing to share.
