    1. [ILFORD-L] Robert Wheeler
    2. I am trying to locate any descendent of Robert Wheeler of Pilot Township of Kankakee County. Here is what I have: The "History of Kankakee County, Illinois," page 1220, provides the following information reference Robert Wheeler: Wheeler, Robert. One of the most convincing arguments in favor of country life is found in the fact that more and more men of culture and broad outlook are seeking the seclusion and permanent peace of farms, and ignoring as less worthy the feverish activity of cities, with their nerve and individuality-annihilating tendencies, and their absence of the real compensations of existence. Prominent among this class of men who are lending dignity and worth to Pilot township is Robert Wheeler, around whose early youth centered the traditions and characteristics of picturesque Wales, out in whose veins flows the blood of English and Irish ancestors, with its possibilities of adaptation to the most exacting demands upon central western citizenship. Born in Braconshire, southern Wales, March 4.1851, Mr. Wheeler is the son of GEORGE AND MARGARET (CHRISTIE) WHEELER, the former of whom was born in England and the latter in Ireland. George Wheeler was a man of resources and ambitions, and for a number of years was a quartermaster in the English army. His marriage occurred in Ireland, and at the time of his death in 1858 he was a retired Officer of the Army. IN 1864 his wife brought her family to the United States. In the spring of 1865 they located on a farm in Pilot township, where they purchased land, and where the mother died in October 1876. Robert Wheeler is practically self-educated, having learned more from observation and subsequent study, than he did during the years of his studentship. He had a clear, well-concentrated mind, and to farming, politics, and general affairs, has brought a wealth of practical commonsense and genuine ability. In 1872 he was united in marriage to Susie Serene, who died in 1879, and in 1882 he married Harriet S. Wright, who is the mother of three children: Annie R. Robert C. and Thomas H. As a republican politician, Mr. Wheeler has perhaps reached his second most important sphere of usefulness. he is regarded as an able and conscientious local leader, having filled with universal satisfaction a number of important offices. In 1882, he was elected collector of Pilot township, which he filled three years, and since has been commissioner of highways, serving as treasure of that body since April 1893. He also has been constable and school director of the township, and has served on the grand jury. He is among the best known and most highly respected men in the community, setting an example of a practical, broad and useful life. Marriage of Robert to Susie M. Serene was 22 Jan. 1872 Vol. B. pg. 95 lic #2995 Marriage of Robert to Harriett L. Wright was 21 Feb. 1882 Vol. A Uc#1 045 More About ROBERT WHEELER and SUSIE SERENE: Marriage: January 22, 1872, Pilot Township, Kankakee County, Illinois More About ROBERT WHEELER and HARRIETT WRIGHT: Marriage: February 21, 1882, Pilot Township, Krankakee County, Illinois Children of ROBERT WHEELER and HARRIETT WRIGHT are: i.
