The Libertarian Party is making one last push to get Steve Dashbach's column published, in which he requests that the general public boycott Census 2000 because he (speaking for the party, mind you) considers it needlessly intrusive. The office of his press secretery, George Getz, is calling all newspapers to which they sent this column about a month ago to find out if it has been published or will be published before April 1. The column material is, first of all, flawed by Steve's mis-quoting the questions on the census to which he objects. For instance, he claims the census asks the question: Do you have trouble bathing? Nowhere does that question appear; the reference to bathing DOES appear on a checklist of possible disabilities in members of the household over age 16. The object being, of course, to determine medical needs and types of disabilities in the population over age 16. He also objects to the multiple heritage questions for which we as genealogists fought so hard. Please keep your eyes open for this column from the national president of the Libertarian Party and be prepared to repsond to it in your newspaper if it appears. Steve is of the opinion, of course, that both Forth Wayne newspapers should publish his tirade because he is from Fort Wayne.
